The lucrative ONTARIO SIRED HERITAGE SERIES for Ontario-sired three-year-olds wraps up on Friday at Woodbine, the final two stakes races that were re-scheduled from last Sunday due to a weather cancellation.
Four races at different distances and on different surfaces are run for the fillies and for colts and geldings and points are collected for placings first through sixth. The top three finishers by points receive cash awards.
The colt and gelding division appears to be in the bag for Frank DiGiulio’s GO KART MOZART (Souper Speedy), who has 25 points. However, DARK SCREEN could actually overhaul him for first place if he is second or better in the final race today, the 1 1/16 mile Lake Ontario Stakes. Go Kart Mozart is not in the Lake Ontario.
Dark Screen is trained by Bev Chubb and the son of Big Screen won the Lake Superior Stakes, was second in the Lake Huron and fifth in the Lake Erie.
On the filly side, speedy gal RHAENYRA (Reload) is the points leader, but is not in the final race today, the Ashbridge’s Bay Stakes, and she has only a three-point lead on stablemate BRENGUNGIRL (Point of Entry). The latter looks like a strong contender in the final stakes event and if she is third or better she will grab first place. The points leaders are listed below.
