Robert and Linda Krembil were in the Gulfstream Park winner’s circle on Feb. 1 following an exciting victory by their colt EDGE OF FIRE in his career debut.
The chestnut colt by Curlin is a homebred and the first foal from Leading Edge, a Tapit gal who was third in the Grade 3 Selene Stakes. Leading Edge, a grey mare who was trained by Roger Attfield, is a daughter of the Krembil’s Essential Edge, a graded stakes winner and daughter of the family’s Rose of Tara, who has become a foundation mare for Chiefswood, which is also owned by Mark and Stacy Krembil.
Edge of Fire had a lovely learning debut in the six furlong dash as he was covered up behind pace runners around the turn before he angled out and drew off to win under a hand ride by jockey Irad Ortiz.
American trainer Jimmy Jerkens conditions the colt, one of several US trainers employed by Chiefswood.
Certainly the Queen’s Plate in late June comes to mind immediately for Edge of Fire, who likely zoomed up the list of leading contenders, even with just one race, the 1:11 4/5 score at six furlongs, under his belt.
