Lael Stables’ LUV YOUR NEIGHBOR, an Ontario-bred three-year-old filly who has been second in so many major races in the U.S., finally got her stakes win on June 13. The daughter of Constitution – Disobedient by Into Mischief, powered to victory in the Grade 3 Delaware Oaks, worth $300,000, at Delaware Park, her ninth career race. Trained by Michael Stidham, Luv Your Neighbor was 5-to-2 in the seven-horse field.
Bred by David Anderson’s Anderson Farms and 552727 Ontario, Ltd., Luv Your Neighbor came into the Delaware Oaks at 1 1/16 miles off a second-place finish in the Eight Belles Stakes (G2) at Churchill Downs, a third in the Fair Grounds Oaks (G2) and three more runner-up placings in the winter in stakes at Fair Grounds.
In the Delaware Oaks, Luv Your Neighbor made a three-wide move on the far turn under jockey Luis Saez, ranged up to join the leaders nearing the quarter pole, joining Dazzling Dame and Jumping the Gun in a three-way fight that stayed within a head through a mile in 1:37.40. Sáez angled his filly four wide off the turn, and she kicked clear under a stiff drive to a final time of 1:44.05 on the fast main track.
Her Beyer Speed Figure, according to Daily Racing Form, was a career-best 92.
Luv Your Neighbor was bought for $350,000 at the 2024 Keeneland September yearling sale. Her dam’s first foal is stakes-placed Faber and she has a two-year-old colt by Nyquist, a yearling by Constitution, and is in foal to that stallion again.
Unfortunately, it does not seem likely that Luv Your Neighbor will be coming to Woodbine for the July 19 Woodbine Oaks as she was not kept eligible for the 1 1/8 mile race for Canadian-bred three-year-old fillies. The filly’s only poor race of her career came last year at Woodbine on the Tapeta when she was seventh, beaten 23 lengths, in the Glorious Song Stakes.
A filly can be supplemented to the Oaks at a cost of $2,500.
