Each year, breeders of the top Ontario Sired foals competing in black type stakes races in Ontario are eligible for additional awards based on their Ontario Black Type earnings. The Ontario CTHS is pleased to announce this year’s winning recipients for racing excellence in 2011.
Pender Harbour, a multiple Stakes winner and CTHS Yearling Sale Graduate, has been named the Overall Champion of the CTHS Ontario Sired Racing Rewards Program. Making his turf debut this past racing season, the four-year-old son of Philanthropist captured two legs of the Canadian Triple Crown: the Breeders’ Stakes and Prince of Wales Stakes, followed by a third place finish in the Queen’s Plate. He also achieved first place wins in the Bunty Lawless and Kingarvie Stakes in 2011.
Bred in Ontario by Gardiner Farms Limited, Pender Harbour was a $17,000 purchase at the 2009 CTHS Canadian-Bred Yearling Sale and has collected $861,092 in stakes earnings this past racing season alone. In addition to Pender Harbour, seven of the 12 winning recipients of this year’s Rewards Program are CTHS Yearling Sale graduates, including Ontario-Breds Kitty’s Got Class, Notacloudinthesky, Run in Aruba, Bear It’s Time, Hippolytus, and Dancing Raven.
Rewarding BT racing performance at Woodbine and Fort Erie Racetracks, the Ontario breeders’ bonus program consists of six divisions offering $10,000 and a $2,000 OSS Stallion Breeding Certificate for first place, and $5,000 cash and a $1,000 OSS Stallion Breeding Certificate to second place recipients.
