Rexdale, ON – The Canadian Thoroughbred Horse Society (Ontario Division) honoured the Ontario-Bred champions of 2008 at their 27th Annual Awards, which took place on Friday, June 12th at the Lionhead Golf & Country Club in Brampton, Ontario.

 

The event honoured Adena Springs as Breeder of the Year and the late Morgan Firestone as the recipient of this year’s Blood-Horse Mint Julep Cup. Other highlights included the presentation of 22 photo awards to the Ontario breeders of Historical Grade 1 Canadian or Open Graded Stakes winners, as well as 69 awards in the form of handcrafted glass goblets presented to the Ontario-Bred Stakes winners of 2008.

 

Awards were also presented to four stallions based on their 2008 earnings of eligible progeny, with 1st place presented to Bold Executive, 2nd place to Trajectory, and 3rd place to Bold N’ Flashy. The award for 2008 Top 1st Crop Ontario Sire was presented to Tomahawk.

 

Six members were honoured in recognition for their 25-year contribution to the Thoroughbred breeding industry, while Stronach Stables received The Jockey Club of Canada Award for 2008 Leading Owner in Ontario.

 

A silent auction also took place during the event in support of the LongRun Thoroughbred Retirement Society, which included several pieces of fine horse artwork, as well as Stallion Seasons generously donated by members and friends of the Thoroughbred community.
