Charles Fipke’s PERFECT TIMBER, a beautifully-bred son of Perfect Soul (Ire) and Grade 1 placed in his career, sired his first winner from just his third starter at Woodbine on November 27.
Talk to Ya Later, trained by Ian Black for Piano Bar Racing, got sorted out by jockey Emma-Jayne Wilson after a bumping start, rallied wide midway through the 6 1/2 furlong dash on Tapeta, and surged to victory while racing greenly in her first start. The 2-year-old dark bay filly won by 1 1/2 lengths in 1:18.03.
Fipke bred Talk to Ya Later and she was purchased at the 2020 CTHS Ontario yearling sale for $5,000 by Piano Bar’s Jim Menzies.
Talk to Ya Later is the second foal to race of the placed mare Sea the Awesome (Ire), a daughter of Sea the Stars (Ire).
Perfect Timber, who also won his career debut, doing so at Gulfstream Park, was second in Northern Dancer Stakes (G1) and twice second in Grade 3 Singspiel Stakes, all at Woodbine.
His sire Perfect Soul is a champion turf horse and a son of world-class sire Sadler’s Wells. Perfect Timber’s dam, Timber Ice, by Woodman, is a full sister to Group 1-winning 2-year-old Way of Light. This is the family of Group 1 winner and top sire Machiavellian, plus Group 1 winners Exit to Nowhere, Coup de Genie and others.
Perfect Timber stands at Colebrook Farms in Uxbridge, ON and his 2021 fee was $2,500 (Can.).
