Toronto, ON – Chair Rod Seiling announced that Dan Nixon of Toronto has been appointed by the Government of Ontario as a member of the Ontario Racing Commission (ORC) for a period of two (2) years, effective May 29, 2010.
With a professional background in finance and banking, Mr. Nixon has been an owner of both standard and thoroughbreds for over 10 years. “I’ve been an avid fan for 50 years and I am dedicated to the well-being of both the people and horses involved in this industry,” said Nixon. “The future of racing is a big challenge, given the ultra competitive world of the sporting business, and I am delighted to be part of it.”
Chair Seiling is pleased to have someone with this calibre of experience available to serve Ontario horse racing. “During these times of charting the best course for racing, we need people with the capability and background to make prudent decisions for the good of the racing community and the public interest.”
He also announced that the Government of Ontario had re-appointed David Gorman for a one (1) year term, effective April 29, 2010. Mr. Gorman was first named to the ORC Board in 2004. “We welcome David back for another term and we will continue to count on his vast experience,” said Seiling. “But we must also bid farewell to Dr. Bernard F. Brennan, DVM who has served the ORC
Board with distinction since 2002. I want to thank Bernie for his wise counsel, his caring and knowledgeable manner, and his dedication to all in racing.”
