Multiple Canadian champion jockey PATRICK HUSBANDS, who is currently in Florida getting ready for the 2024 Woodbine season, will be in action in Trinidad on March 30. Husbands will ride top horse SUPER BIRD (Charismatic Cat) in the $43,000 Dixie Crackers Champagne Stakes (G3) on the Easter weekend card of racing at Santa Rosa Park.
Super Bird, owned and bred by Hugh Leong Poi in Trinidad, won the Champagne Stakes in 2023 and 2022. His victory in the race last year was one of three races for the now six-year-old horse in 2023. Super Bird won his 2024 opener but recently stumbled badly at the start of the Edmund DeFreitas Gold Cup on March 2.
Super Bird is one of four horses trained by John O’Brien in the six-horse field.
The winner of the Defreitas Gold Cup, HELLO WORLD (Ten Meropa) will be favoured based on his 7-5-2-0 record. The four-year-old colt will be ridden by leading jockey Brian Boodramsingh, who also rides at Hastings racecourse in Vancouver.
