Charles Fipke’s homebred champion Perfect Soul (IRE), sire of 2011 Breeders’ Cup Filly and Mare Turf winner Perfect Shirl, will stand the 2012 breeding season at the Hunderup family’s Norse Ridge Farm near King City, Ontario. Richard Hogan of RGH Bloodstock advises that Perfect Soul (IRE)’s 2012 breeding fee is $7,500 Canadian funds, payable when foal stands and nurses.
The son of Sadler’s Wells – Ball Chairman, by Secretariat was named Canada’s Champion Turf Male in 2003 after winning the Grade 1 Shadwell Mile S. at Keeneland and Woodbine’s Grade 2 King Edward Breeders’ Cup H. The Roger Attfield trainee returned in 2004 for a record-setting victory in Keeneland’s Grade 2 Maker’s Mark Mile before retiring with 7 victories and 9 graded stakes wins or placings from 21 lifetime starts, and earnings of $1,527,764.
Perfect Soul (IRE) entered stud at the famed Darby Dan Farm near Lexington, Kentucky in 2005. His first foals arrived at the races in 2008, and he has already sired earners of more than $6.7 million (over $3.1 million in 2011) including 2011 Breeders’ Cup victress Perfect Shirl, Canadian classic winner Perfect Shower, and 2011 multiple Woodbine stakes winner Check Your Soul. His progeny have been well-received at major North American auctions with his weanlings averaging more than $53,000, yearlings averaging nearly $30,000, and 2-year-olds averaging over $50,000.
The fastest miler by sire of sires Sadler’s Wells, Perfect Soul (IRE) set a new Keeneland course record of 1:33 2/5 in the Maker’s Mark Mile S.-G2 and also won Keeneland’s Shadwell Turf Mile S.-G1 over the same course and distance while twice placing in Woodbine’s Grade 1 Atto Turf Mile S.
Perfect Soul (IRE)’s sire, Sadler’s Wells, is one of the most influential sons of the great Northern Dancer, having sired more than 320 stakes winners including North American Leading Sire El Prado (IRE) and major international sires Galileo (IRE), Montjeu (IRE), and In The Wings. Like leading sires Storm Cat, A.P. Indy, and Gone West, Perfect Soul (IRE) is out of a daughter of Secretariat; and his third dam is Canadian champion Queen Louie.
