PIERRE ESQUIROL, breeder of 2019 Alberta Horse of the Year SMART FIX and one of Canada’s longtime leading breeders and stallion owners, is hosting his own yearling sale September 12 and 13 at his farm in SHERWOOD PARK, AB.

Esquirol and partner Shelley Lupul have 27 horses for sale by a variety of stallions and will show the yearlings as well as 2- and 3-year-olds in a 2-day event beginning at 10 a.m. on Saturday, Sept. 12.

Esquirol offers the TRIPLE ‘B’ PROGRAM for anyone who purchases a horse and he emphasizes that getting new owners into the industry is key to horse racing in Alberta surviving. The Triple B program is ‘Buy, Board & Break’ which gives any buyer the opportunity to keep their horse with Esquirol to be prepared for racing.

“Our industry is changing, and we have to do whatever it takes to survive as breeders,” said Lupul. “We keep hearing that there are not enough horses but the fact is, there are not enough owners. We are making it easy to buy a race horse, take all the worry away from the new owner of what do we do with him now? So we are offering the  Triple “B” program to anyone who buys a horse from us. It all can be done here, stress- and hassle-free.”

Esquirol and Lupul relocated in 2019 to their current farm close to Century Mile racetrack and are excited to showcase the property, including indoor heated arena as well as their horses.

The sale is not an auction; the horses have set prices, according to Lupul.

“There is no pressure buying because this is not an auction. We have set prices so there are no others bidding you up. We aren’t going to buy them back, what we are offering for sale, is for sale.”
