Eclipse Award-winning Apprentice Jockey PIETRO MORAN, second in the Woodbine standings in 2025, has won five races at Gulfstream in the last week since returning to riding after his Eclipse win. Moran rode at Turfway Park in Florence, KY following the Woodbine meeting, but was blanked in 48 mounts, according to Equibase.
The 21-year-old will be moving his tack to Keeneland in Lexington when that meeting begins on April 3. Plans following that meeting are up in the air, Moran told Thoroughbred Daily News’ Bill Finley.
“The plan was to go from Keeneland to Woodbine, but things might change, especially if I keep getting good opportunities. So, I’m not sure what is happening yet.”
Moran, who is now a journeyman rider, led the jockey standings at Woodbine for much of 2025 while riding as an apprentice before winding up second to Rafael Hernandez. He won a total of 140 races last year at various tracks.
Last weekend, Moran guided the Gail Cox-trained mare MISS VYVYANNE to victory in an off-the-turf sprint, optional claiming $125,000, at 8-to-1 odds. The Florida-bred speedster sped through fractions of 21.35, 43. 84 and finished up 5 furlongs in 55.87 to collected $51,000 (US). The six-year-old by Rainbow Heir is owned by Ralph Murray and Calstar Farm Inc.
Her winning Beyer Speed Figure, according to Daily Racing Form, was a career-best 91.
Miss Vyvyanne, who has changed barns several times in her career, was claimed for $32,000 by her current interests last June. She has won three consecutive races for these owners and trainer Cox. In her career, Miss Vyvyanne has won 10 of 22 races and earned over $366,159.
