Duo Hall of Fame trainer ROGER ATTFIELD will start Charles Fipke’s READY FOR THE LADY in the $100,000 Allen Jerkens Handicap at two miles on the turf, Saturday, December 17 at Gulfstream Park. That will be weather permitting, as the Hallandale area is expected to get rain for a few more days and the race could be moved to Tapeta and shortened to 1 5/8 miles.
Three-year-old Ready for the Lady won the Grade 3 Singspiel Stakes at Woodbine at 1 3/8 miles on turf in September and is listed at 20-to-1 in the morning line odds.
An interesting entrant in the Allen Jerkens is a former Attfield trainee, PLEASECALLMEBACK, an Ontario-bred 5-year-old by Hard Spun- Dixie Chicken by Rahy who was stakes placed as a juvenile at Woodbine and, in his last race for Attfield, won a 1 3/4 mile optional claiming race last fall. The dark bay, who was bred by Sean and Dorothy Fitzhenry, was purchased by Upland Flats Racing and schooled over hurdles. He won his third try in a race over jumps at Colonial Downs on Aug. 1.
Pleasecallmeback comes off a big win at Charleston on Nov. 13 in a 2 3/8 mile hurdle race. He is trained by Keri Brion.
Gulfstream Park begins its Championship season on Dec. 26.
