The third round of the lucrative Ontario Sire Heritage Series for 3-year-olds by Ontario stallions highlights the Friday afternoon racing card at Woodbine. Race 5 is the Thunder Bay Stakes worth $100,000 for the fillies at 7 furlongs on turf and race 7 is the $100,000 Lake Superior Stakes for colts and geldings.
The Heritage Series has four races for both fillies and the boys and in addition to offering attractive purse money, the series also awards the top three point-getters from the series based on a 10-7-5-3-2-1 point system.
PLEASURE’S GOLD is the current point leader on the fillies’ side with 17 points from a win and a second-place finish. Pleasure’s Gold (Souper Speedy) won the Rondeau Bay Stakes at Fort Erie at 6 furlongs on the dirt for owners and breeders Elizabeth and Gordon Lickrish. Trained by Tino Attard, Pleasure’s Gold was second in the Georgian Bay Stakes at 5 furlongs on the turf to start the series.
In the Thunder Bay, Pleasure’s Gold will have Rafael Hernandez on board and she meets two other fillies who have accumulated points in the series. Souper Flashy, owned and bred by Terra Racing Stable, was second in the Rondeau Bay and has five points to Pleasure’s Gold’s 17 point. Indian Music has one point.
The Lake Superior Stakes has the top three point earners in the field in BOSSY HOLIDAY (17) SILENT RUNNER (15) and UNCLE JOE (12).
Bossy Holiday, owned and bred by Ivan Dalos, was third in the Lake Huron Stakes at five furlongs on the inner turf to Silent Runner at Woodbine before he won the Lake Erie Stakes at Fort Erie, turning the tables on Silent Runner who was third.
Uncle Joe, trained and co-owned by Steven Chircop, was fourth in the Lake Huron and second in the Lake Erie Stakes.
The leading point-getters in the series receive $20,000 as a bonus with second and third placings by points receiving $10,000 and $5,000.
