The Rumble is heading to a life of leisure.

Popular Woodbine gelding PUMPKIN RUMBLE, a 9-year-old son of English Channel who won the last two Valedictory Stakes (G3) at 1 3/4 miles at Woodbine, has been retired by his owners Bill and Al Ulwelling of Minnesota.

The Ulwellings said their star runner had a small injury that was not easy to find, but once they did, they elected to retire the flashy chestnut.

LongRun Thoroughbred Retirement Society, which has a farm in Hillsburgh, ON, has accepted the gelding into their program just as it did with one of ‘Rumble’s arch rivals, Melmich. Melmich lived briefly at LongRun before he was quickly adopted by a new, loving owner.

Huge thanks to LongRun Thoroughbed retirement group for accepting PUMPKIN ? RUMBLE. He had a small injury and we have decided to retire him sound. He did a lot for us and we are grateful that he has a good forever home! Thank you LongRun!!! – Bill and Al Ulwelling, Minnesota

The Ulwellings did pretty well with Pumpkin Rumble, having claimed him second time out in his career for $30,000 in 2014 at Fair Grounds.

He went on to win 11 of 48 races, earn $704,850, and he was strong right through age 8 in 2019. Last year he set a course record when he won the Alphabet Soup Stakes on the turf at Parx racing for Pennsylvania-breds before he romped in his second Valedictory at Woodbine.

Bred by Smart Angle, Pumpkin Rumble is from the Storm Cat mare Clarins.

Appointments can be made to visit LongRun and its horses and the adoption process is available for discussion by contacting LongRun.

HUNTER ULWELLING: The memories this guy has given my family have been beyond amazing. Their first graded stakes winner. All the other memories and places he’s taken us. Forever thankful to this handsome Pumpkin Rumble. Enjoy retirement boy, you deserve it! #PumpkinRumble
