Jockey RAFAEL HERNANDEZ, a leading rider at Woodbine and Sovereign Award winner in 2020 for Outstanding Jockey, made his fans a pile of cash as he won the first 2 races at Turfway Park in Florence, Kentucky on Jan. 25. Hernandez got 43-to-1 shot Scat Shack up to win the first race for trainer Terry Young, paying $88.02 to win. In race 2, Hernandez steered 12-to-1 shot Tiz Susan Ann to an easy win for trainer Jonathan Maldonado, paying $27.78 to win. The Hernandez Daily Double paid over $1,400 for a $2 wager.

Hernandez added another win at Turfway on Thursday evening.

Also on Wednesday evening, trainer STEVEN CHIRCOP won the Daily Double at Penn National as his successful winter stint continues at the Pennsylvania track. Ontario-breds SIMPLE SOUVENIR (Souper Speedy) won a starter allowance at 5-to-1 for her second straight win and ROMANTIC GAMBLE (Gamble’s Exchange) won a starter optional race at 4-to-5.

Chircop added another winner Thursday evening when Belentime was an easy winner for $10,000 claiming. The Not This Time gelding was claimed but it was voided post-race by the track veterinarian.

Chircop is 6-4-2 from his 18 starters in 2023.

COLEBROOK FARMS had a big winner in a maiden race last week. Broadway Sky, an Ontario-bred by Not This Time, won at Mahoning Valley on January 23 by a whopping 24 3/4 lengths. It was the 12th start for the Colebrook homebred who was winning for $10,000 claiming and his trainer is Kevin Buttigieg.
