Toronto, ON – Donald Ross’ Resentless overpowered her rivals in Saturday’s $151,200 Fury Stakes at Woodbine.
The three-year-old daughter of Trajectory now has three wins from six starts and solidified herself as a major contender for the Woodbine Oaks, presented by Budweiser (www.woodbineoaks.com), on June 13.
Trained by Ian Howard and ridden by Chantal Sutherland, Resentless, the 6-5 mutuel favourite, poured it on through the lane to win by five lengths. Roan Inish, last year’s Princess Elizabeth Stakes winner was second, while Oil Painting showed late brush to get third.
“She feels stronger, more coordinated and more athletic this year,” said Sutherland, of the dark bay. “She’s hitting the ground a little lighter than she did last year. I just like her intensity. She’s developed nicely.”
Resentless reeled off early fractions of :22.83 and :45.24, before widening her advantage at will. The final time for seven furlongs was 1:21.66 on the Polytrack.
Despite a few hiccups at the start, Howard was pleased with the effort of last year’s Ontario Lassie Stakes winner.
“She didn’t break all that sharply, but I figured she would be on the lead fairly quickly. When they went the half in forty-five and one, I wasn’t really too worried. She was doing it easily. It was a great race.”
Resentless returned $4.40, $3 and $2.40, combining with Roan Inish ($3.80, $2.50) for a $14.20 exactor. Oil Painting ($3.50) completed a $70.30 triactor. A $1 superfecta (Tee Game) paid $118.15.
