Florida-bred ROUGH ENTRY (Poseidon’s Warrior – Dixie Ocean by Indian Ocean) won the $21,700,000 (about $143,000 USD) Mouttet Mile (G1) in Jamaica on Dec. 2 with Julien Leparoux riding. Shipped to Caymanas Park for the one mile dirt race by Florida trainer and co-owner Rohan Crichton, who hails from Jamaica, Rough Entry tracked the front-running filly Mamma Mia while four-wide early in the Mile, took over into the stretch and pulled away to a seven-length win. It was the second win for Leparoux on the card.
Woodbine jockey DAISUKE FUKOMOTO brought Perfect Brew from far off the pace to finish fifth.
This was the second running of the Mouttet Mile. Rough Entry, now, a nine-time winner, also raced for co-owners Dennis Smith and Daniel Walters. The bay horse, six years old, was bred by Helen and Joseph Barbazon.
