Shahroze rallied from last place for a powerful two-length victory in Saturday’s Grade 3 $125,000 Singspiel Stakes at Woodbine.

Danish Dynaformer, who won the 2016 edition and was looking to give trainer Attfield a record eighth win in just the 14th running of the race, was within striking distance around the far turn but failed to fire while finishing sixth.

English Illusion and Seeking Albert contentious for the first mile, faltered to end seventh and eighth, respectively.

The final time on a firm turf course was 2:25.65, just .35 seconds off the course record established by Raintrap in the 1994 running of the Canadian International.

“I want to say to the family of Corey Lanerie, who’s wife passed away yesterday, I want to wish peace to him and all the family. I’m very sad to hear his wife passed away,” said Garcia.
