Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum has been cleared of any wrongdoing surrounding the drug scandal that plagued his equine operations last year.
Following several drug-related incidents in 2013, Sheikh Mohammed tasked Lord Stevens, the former Metropolitan Police chief commissioner, with investigating the matters and proving that he had no knowledge of the banned substance use taking place in his Thoroughbred racing, endurance racing and stud farm operations.
A report by The Guardian stated Stevens interviewed employees of Sheikh Mohammed’s organization and concluded that the seizures of unlicensed veterinary goods by British authorities resulted from “a sense of complacency” within the Sheikh’s management structure.
Since the scandal began, Sheikh Mohammed and his wife, FEI president Princess Haya, have developed an independent task force designed to ensure internal compliance.
