Spring is on the way and racing fans know that as Keeneland opens its stakes-heavy, short meeting April 8 which will feature many of the top horses in training. In particular, the 3-year-olds heading to the Kentucky Oaks (G1) and Kentucky Derby (G1) make their final starts before possible dances in those big races on opening weekend.

Friday’s Ashland Stakes (G1) brings together the fillies at 1 1/16 miles gunning for the bulk of the $600,000 purse. The Todd Pletcher-trained Nest (Curlin – Marien Ravenwood by A.P. Indy) is the 2 to 1 favourite based on her six-length win in the Suncoast stakes at Tammpa Bay Downs.

Canadian/Ontario bred Interstatedaydream (Classic Empire – Babcock by Uncle Mo) is 5 to 2 off a big win in an allowance race win at Oaklawn Park on Mar. 13. Interstatedaydream, owned by Flurry Racing Stables LLC, was bred by the late Bill Graham’s Windhaven in Caledon, ON.
