A Stormy Atlantic filly who sold for $130,000 topped the Selected Session of the Canadian-Bred Yearling Sale on Tuesday, September 7th held at the Woodbine Sales Pavilion in Toronto. By day’s end, 128 horses sold for $3,686,700, for an average price of $28,802.
The sleek, dark bay filly, who was purchased by Anthony Goswell, Agent for Dick Bonnycastle’s Harlequin Ranches through Richard G. Hogan, Agent, is the first foal of the Theatrical (IRE) mare Theatre Fan, who is a half sister to the dam of Kentucky Derby (G1) and Preakness Stakes (G1) winner, Big Brown.
A dark bay colt by Canadian Champion Perfect Soul (IRE), out of the Woodman mare Timber Ice sold for $120,000 to William Werner through Cara Bloodstock (Bernard McCormack), Agent.
This year’s sale saw a decrease in both gross and horses not sold, as well as a decrease of four percent in average.
“There is tremendous vitality in Woodbine’s racing program, unfortunately, these figures prove the benefits have not yet trickled down to positive numbers for our breeders,” said Gail Wood, Sales Chair.
The Open Session of the Sale continues on Saturday beginning at 2:00 p.m. at the Woodbine Sales Pavilion, with the horses available for inspection on Thursday, September 9th at 5:00 p.m. through to the end of the Sale.
