Gary and Mary West Stables charge Tiz Blessed ran away with Sunday’s $152,100 Display Stakes at Woodbine. The 1 1/16-mile test was the first career stakes score for the Chad Brown trainee, who was making just his third career start. Tiz Blessed was under the wire a 5 1/2-length winner over Moonshine Mullin. Silverleo was third. The Kentucky-bred son of Tiznow covered 1 1/16 miles in 1:44.23.
Competing in his first ever synthetic race, Tiz Blessed relaxed nicely in the early stages of the open added-money event for two-year-olds. Under winning jockey Patrick Husbands, Tiz Blessed found a seam along the inside near the half-mile pole, continued to stalk on the second turn and drew away from his rivals in upper stretch. By the eighth pole, he was in front by 3 1/2 lengths and continued to pour it on in the final furlong.
The bay colt is now 2-for-3 with $125,000 in earnings.
Tiz Blessed returned $6.90, $4.30 and $2.80, combining with Moonshine Mullin ($7.60, $3.90) for a $56.60 exactor. Silverleo ($4.30) rounded out a triactor worth $287.30. A $1 superfecta returns $429.75.
