Toronto, ON – At the annual meeting of Members held on Saturday, July 3, 2010, at Woodbine Race Track, new Stewards and Members were appointed to The Jockey Club of Canada.
The Jockey Club of Canada’s newly elected Board of Stewards is comprised of: Jeff Begg, Richard Bonnycastle, Geordie Hendrie, Jim Lawson, Sue Leslie, Ross McKague, Glenn Sikura, Harvey Tenenbaum, Harvey Warner and Gordon Wilson.
The newly elected members of The Jockey Club of Canada are: Scott Abbott, Bob Anderson, Sid Attard, Warren Byrne, Michael Doyle, Richard Hogan and John Unger.
In April 2010, Jim Lawson was appointed Chief Steward of The Jockey Club of Canada and Mr. Lawson was reelected at Saturday’s meeting. Jim Lawson has been active in the Thoroughbred Horse Racing and Breeding Industry for approximately 30 years. He sits on the Board of Directors of Woodbine Entertainment Group and many other Boards.
Stepping down as Stewards in 2010 are Michael Byrne, Bill Graham and Michael Van Every. The Jockey Club of Canada and the thoroughbred racing and breeding industry are most appreciative of the dedicated service of the retiring Stewards.
The Jockey Club of Canada was founded in 1973 by E.P. Taylor to serve as the international representative of the Canadian Thoroughbred industry and to promote improvements to Thoroughbred racing and breeding, both in Canada and internationally. The Jockey Club operates a field office of The Jockey Club (New York); organizes the Sovereign Awards; administers the Canadian Graded Stakes program; liaises with foreign Jockey Clubs; promotes Thoroughbred ownership; and represents Canada at international racing conferences.
