John Anderson’s U DID IT certainly did it in her 3-year-old debut May 22 at Hastings racecourse in Vancouver. The big, long string bay filly by Tiede – Architecture by Dixie Chatter remained unbeaten in her career with a strong, front-running win in the $50,000 Sadie Diamond Maturity at 6 1/2 furlongs.
Ridden by Antonio Reyes, U Did It broke smoothly from her rail post facing six rivals, set a quick pace of 22.24 and 46.14 and she held firm to win by 1 3/4 lengths over the pair of Shamra and Marys Tappin Shoes who dead-heated for second. The final time was 1:17.65.
U Did It is trained by Edgar Mendoza, with assistant Christine Ammann who also bred the filly. U Did It went through the 2020 CTHS BC Mixed Sale and was purchased for $1,145 (US) by Lisa Anderson.
This was the fourth win in as many starts for U Did It who won the CTHS Sales Stakes in her third run as a 2-year-old. The filly’s dam Architecture won the Fantasy Stakes at Hastings and two others stakes. This is her fourth foal to race and all are winners.
In the accompanying Jack Diamond Maturity, also worth $50,000, it was another Mendoza trainee, SOARINGFORTHESUN, who soared to the lead and won under a hand ride by Amadeo Perez. The bay gelding won by four lengths for owners and breeders Sylvea and David Gregory. The BC-bred gelding is by Sungold – Random Highs by High Demand.
Soaringforthesun ran 6 1/2 furlongs in 1:17.58 and he is the second foal to race of 12-time winner Random Highs.
Mendoza and Ammann scored a triple on the day when Ammann’s homebred Rea Mea won a $20,000 claiming race earlier in the day.
