Apprentice MICHAEL DAVID guided OWEN’S TOUR GUIDE to an impressive win on Thursday, the first Woodbine victory for David, who began riding in 2021. Owen’s Tour Guide, owned by Tequesta Racing and trained by William Armata, was David’s 13th career winner. The son of retired jockey Daniel David, the younger David allowed the 5-year-old gelding to track the pace early in the seven furlong sprint for $7,500 claiming before launching a five-wide bid late on the turn on the way to a 4 3/5 length victory. It was the gelding’s first race since November 2020.

British Columbia-bred BOLD ARCH had a sparkling return to the races as a 5-year-old on May 21 with a five-length win in a $50,000 claiming race at Hastings racecourse. The son of Archarcharch – Daylight Cat, by Discreet Cat ran 6 1/2 furlongs in 1:15.63, just three ticks off the track record. Bold Arch, making his first start since August 2021, was winning for the third straight time and the fifth time in 11 races. The gelding won the CTHS Sales Stakes in his final outing of last year.

Bold Arch was bred by Barry Doud and is owned by John Morrison and Kim and Rob Sadler and trained by Morrison. He was purchased at the 2018 BC Mixed sale for $13,763 (US).

The deadly Ontario storm that ripped through on Saturday did plenty of damage at Woodbine racetrack. A large part of the roof of the former Standardbred barn on the clubhouse turn was torn off.

At Roger Attfield’s barn, the iconic tree on his front lawn was essentially destroyed.

Many a champion racehorse has grazed under the Attfield tree. In my photos below, champion sprinter SUMMER MOOD reaches up for some leaves, and STEADY POWER, with Andrea and Jamie, enjoying a post-race snack.

At the left is the destroyed tree inside a round pen, an image taken by RDK.
