There is still plenty of racing action coming up in Canada following the Thanksgiving weekend/week in which three tracks are still racing: Woodbine, Fort Erie and Century Mile, plus Ajax Downs Quarter Horses.
Fort Erie has one card remaining, today Oct. 13. JULIE MATHES is set to win another training title, her husband Dave leads owners by wins and Juan Crawford leads jockeys.
At Woodbine, the jockey race is intense and RAFAEL HERNANDEZ and JUSTIN STEIN are tied with 96 winners each with Emma-Jayne Wilson third at 63.
MARK CASSE, whose Woodbine string is on a roll right now, is well ahead in the trainer’s standings with 69 wins over 32 for Robert Tiller and Norm McKnight. GARY BARBER leads all owners by purse earnings over Live Oak Plantation and Stronach Stables.
CANADA-wide, ANTONIO WHITEHALL leads all jockeys with 111 wins and he is currently riding at Century Mile. That meeting goes until November 8.
*MIGHTY HEART, who is scheduled to go for a Canadian Triple crown sweep Oct. 24 at Woodbine in the 12 furlong Breeders’ Stakes on turf, had an easy 4 furlong workout on Saturday on the Tapeta of 52 seconds. A training session on the E P Taylor turf course originally scheduled for that day was cancelled by Woodbine and now will take place Oct. 17 for stakes nominees.

*Natalma Stakes (G1) winner LADY SPEIGHTSPEARE is out of the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Fillies Turf according to Daily Racing Form. Charles Fipke’s undefeated filly earned a free ticket to the Breeders’ Cup with her Natalma win, but has come up with a knee injury and trainer Roger Attfield has said she is out of training until winter.
