Hall of Fame trainer JOSIE CARROLL has returned to Fair Grounds racetrack in New Orleans after a few years of going to Florida and Saturday she gets rolling with AVIE’S MINESHAFT in the Blushing K D Stakes. The 2018 Wonder Where Stakes winner, bred by Ivan Dalos, has only raced four times in 2019 and seeks her first win. the Blushing K D is a $75,000 stake at 1 1/16 miles on turf.
Also Saturday at Fair Grounds, fans and horsepeople have some interesting Ontario-bred youngsters to check out in maiden 2-year-old races. In particular, race 6 at six furlongs has a pair of boys beside each other in the gate.
F F ROCKET, a $525,000 juvenile purchase earlier this year, is a Curlin colt out of Mekong Delta by Stormy Atlantic bred by Josham Farms and owned by Frank Fletcher. The colt is trained by Al Stall.
Beside this beginner in the gate is SYCAMORE RUN, a Street Sense colt out of Dattt Echo by Stormy Atlantic, bred by Anderson Farms and owned by Scott and Evan Dilworth.
We find Canadian owners and trainers with horses from Turf Paradise on the west coast to Gulfstream, Tampa Bay and Penn National.
Thursday evening at Penn National, Steven Chircop won with his first starter of the fall meeting as GRIMGRINNIN’ GHOST won a $10,000 claiming race at 3 to 1 by more than 3 lengths. Chircop has been successful at racing horses in the winter as has fellow Woodbine trainer Scott Fairlie.
Canadian Thoroughbred will be keeping tabs on Canadian horses this winter.
