The final race card of the 2012 Woodbine thoroughbred racing season was drawn Thursday morning, signaling the end of the eight-month, 156-date campaign.
Sunday’s closing day, which has a first-race post time of 1:05 p.m., features 142 horses, including two also-eligible runners, spread over a 13-race card.
The Valedictory Stakes, for older horses, at a mile and three-quarters, is the spotlight event on the meet’s curtain-closing afternoon. It goes as race 11, a race that features nine runners.
The final horse put through the entry box this year was Royal Spun, a two-year-old daughter of Hard Spun, submitted by trainer David Cotey. The dark bay was entered into race nine, which drew 10 runners.
Sunday’s weather forecast, according to Environment Canada, is calling for a high of plus-four degrees Celsius.
