Woodbine EHV-1 Update

ORC Manager of Veterinary Services Dr. Adam Chambers announced that the restrictions on horses stabled in Barn 3 are lifted. Those horses have rejoined the general populations for purposes of training and racing. In addition, horses NOT stabled in Barn 1 are now allowed to exit Woodbine.

There have been two negative tests for EHV-1 for all horses in Barn 3 and as a result these horses may now train during normal training hours and race. While no horse in Barn 3 had at any time tested positive for EHV-1, the restrictions were initiated as a pony with direct contact with horses in Barn 1 was stabled in Barn 3.

The three horses from Barn 1 that had tested positive for EHV-1 are not allowed to leave their barn. All other Barn 1 horses will be allowed to train on the training track after the track closes to training for all other horses. If there is a second negative test for EHV-1 for all of the horses in Barn 1, their restrictions on racing and training will be lifted on June 26 2013.

After two negative tests for EHV-1 are received, the horses that had been stabled in isolation due to preliminary concerns will be allowed back to their respective barns

Today, the following decisions have been made:

– Barn 1 remains quarantined but may train in a separate training session at the Training Track. A Training Track schedule is attached to the bottom of this email.
– All horses except barn 1 and for-hire ponies may now exit Woodbine as needed, effective immediately.
– Paddock schooling resumes, effective immediately.
– The restriction that for-hire ponies cannot work in the a.m.’s remains in force.
– It is very important that all Biosecurity measures such as footbaths, limit travel between barns, take horse temperatures daily, etc. should all remain in force.

TRAINING SCHEDULE

TRAINING TRACK – MONDAYS/TUESDAYS/THURSDAYS & SATURDAYS and OFF-TURF
6:00 a.m. to 8:00 a.m. – open to all non-quarantine barns
8:00 a.m. to 8:30 a.m. – harrow break
8:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. – QUARANTINE

TRAINING TRACK – WEDNESDAYS/FRIDAYS/SUNDAYS
6:00 a.m. to 8:00 a.m. – open to all non-quarantine barns
8:00 a.m. to 8:30 a.m. – harrow break
8:30 a.m. to 9:00 a.m. – turf training
9:15 a.m. to 11:15 a.m. – QUARANTINE BARN 1 ONLY

Additionally at this time we have added ½ hour per day to the Main Track schedule for all non-quarantine horses.

The Main Track will close at 10:30 a.m. until further notice.

MAIN TRACK – OPEN TO ALL NON QUARANTINE HORSES
6:00 a.m. to 7:30 a.m. – training
7:30 a.m. to 8:00 a.m. – harrow break
8:00 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. – training
