A fairy tale Queen’s Plate has resonated with mainstream media outlets around the world, in particular in Nova Scotia where the colt’s groom, Siobahn Brown, was born. Brown was on live Monday, Sept. 14 with CBC Nova Scotia to talk about the remarkable win by the one-eyed colt she cares for, for owner Larry Cordes and trainer Josie Carroll.

Mighty Heart’s jaw dropping 7 1/2 length win in the Plate, in near-Plate-record time, earned the colt a 99 Beyer Speed Figure from Daily Racing Form, the highest since Midnight Aria’s 101 in 2013 and matching Inglorious’ 99 in 2011.

Siobahn’s interview on CBC News Nova Scotia appears at about the 31 minute mark on the show, here.

*Woodbine swings right into another $1 million race weekend with the WOODBINE MILE (Grade 1), a Win and You’re In race for the Breeders’ Cup Mile, set for Saturday, and the two Grade 1 juvenile races, Natalma and Summer, set for Sunday. Those 2 races are also WAYI races.

So far, WAR OF WILL, the popular Mark Casse trainee who won the 2019 Preakness Stakes and the Grade 1 Maker’s Mark Mile in his 2nd try on the grass, is at Woodbine for the Mile. He will face STARSHIP JUBILEE, perhaps  2019 Horse of the Year, SHIRL’S SPEIGHT, unbeaten 3-year-old from the Roger Attfield barn, March to the Arch, Armistice Day and Chad Brown trainee Value Proposition, 3rd in the Poker Stakes recently at Saratoga.

Woodbine Entertainment is hosting the post-position draw for the  Mile as part of an online Stronger Together panel this Wednesday, Sept. 16 starting at 11 a.m. ET. The Stronger Together panel will be hosted by Jason Portuondo and feature trainers Mark Casse and Kevin Attard, and Woodbine Entertainment CEO Jim Lawson. The panel will discuss how the industry managed the COVID-19 pandemic, how its positioned for the future coming out of the pandemic, and innovation in the sport and industry.

Beginning at 11 a.m., the Stronger Together panel will lead directly into the Ricoh Woodbine Mile draw. The panel and post-position draw will be streamed live on Woodbine.com and Woodbine’s Facebook page at @WoodbineTB.

No RSVP or media credentials are required for the online events but media with questions are invited to please contact Brittney Mayotte, Manager of Communications, for more information or to request race day credentials.

*The PRINCE OF WALES STAKES at 1 3/16 miles on the dirt is the 2nd leg of the OLG Canadian Triple Crown and it could be a lovely opportunity for a Canadian-bred just below the top ones to rake in a big prize. With the race coming just 17 days after the Plate this year due to the re-scheduling of races because of COVID-19 delays, the race may not attract many from the Plate. The race is on Sept. 29.
