Both stakes were at Hastings Racecourse. A two-time winner of the Ballerina Stakes (Grade 3, 2014, 2015), she was third in that race in 2016.

Pedigree: Touching Promise is the third foal out of Promise One (a mare that earned $62,640 on the track) and the only one by Touch Gold. Promise One has three sons sired by Finality and two daughters sired by Awesome Again — none of which have matched Touching Promise’s output.

2016 Review: Graded Stakes Placed, Stanz in Command won the $50,000 Jim Coleman Province Stakes on May 8 by 1 ¼ lengths, the $50,000 River Rock Casino Handicap on June 5 by a nose and the $50,000 CTHS Sales Stakes on Oct. 1 by a nose lengths and was third on Sept. 10 in the $150,000 British Columbia Derby (Grade 3). All stakes were at Hastings Racecourse.

Pedigree: Stanz in Command is the oldest of Serengeti Sunrise’s two foals, both sired by Second in Command, a son of Silver Deputy that stands at Road’s End Farm in Abbotsford, BC. Serengeti Sunrise has also produced filly Bombay, who is just getting her racing career started at age three for trainer Dino Condilenios and owner Swift Thoroughbreds, Inc., who paid $34,065 for her at the 2015 BC sale. Serengeti Sunrise’s two-year-old gelded son Desi sold for $19,170 to Rob Gilker at the 2016 BC sale and has yet to race as of press time, but has five charted workouts at Hastings Racecourse.

2016 Review: Finished second in the $25,000 Manitoba Matron Stakes on Sept. 9 at Assiniboia Downs and fourth in the $75,000 City of Edmonton Distaff Handicap on Aug. 20 at Northlands Park.

Pedigree: The first of Beshairt’s four foals, Key to Glory has a 4-year-old Scat Daddy-sired half-sister named Staff Sgt Reckless that has earned over $66,000.

1. Sir Dudley Digges

Auction history: Sold to Castleton Lyons for $72,000 at the 2013 Keeneland Breeding Stock Sale, resold for $110,000 to Julio Rada, agent at the 2014 Keeneland September Yearling Sale, attempted to be sold (reserve not achieved) at the 2015 Fasig-Tipton Florida Select 2 Year Olds in Training Sale and then sold for $130,000 to Kenneth and Sarah Ramsey for $130,000 at the 2015 Ocala Breeders’ Sale.

2016 Review: Winner of the $1 million Queen’s Plate on July 3 at Woodbine by a ½ length. Finished second in the $500,000 Breeders’ Stakes on Aug. 21 at Woodbine. Ranked 61st in earnings of all thoroughbreds racing in 2016.

Pedigree: The last of My Pal Lana’s six foals and the most successful Sir Dudley Digges is the only foal out of My Pal Lena sired by Gio Ponti. My Pal Lana died while foaling in 2014, losing the foal, as well. A 10-year-old Mineshaft-sired mare out of My Pal Lana named Sister Friend has earned more than $250,000.

2017 Sale: At this year’s Canadian Premier Yearling Sale, Shannondoe Farm, Agent V, is scheduled to sell a chestnut colt sired by Gio Ponti out of Floating Sky. The McCormacks’ Cara Bloodstock will sell 24 of its own horses at this year’s sale and four as agents for other breeders.

2. Amis Gizmo
(2013 c – Giant Gizmo—Galloping Ami by Victory Gallop; 2016 — 6 3-1-0, $705,400)

Connections: Bred by Tall Oaks Farm and owned by Ivan Dalos

Auction history: Went through the 2014 Canadian Premier Yearling Sale but a bid of $135,000 was not enough to meet the reserve price and Dalos took the colt back.

2016 Review: Graded Stakes Winner that won the $171,300 Ontario Derby (Grade 3) on Sept. 17 by six lengths and the $150,000 Plate Trial Stakes on June 12 by 2 ½ lengths, both at Woodbine Racetrack. Also won the $500,000 Prince of Wales Stakes on July 26 at Fort Erie by 5 ½ lengths. Finished second to Sir Dudley Digges by a ½ length in the $1 million Queen’s Plate on July 3 at Woodbine. Ranked 76th in earnings of all thoroughbreds racing in 2016.

Pedigree: Amis Gizmo is the second youngest, and most successful, of Galloping Ami’s six foals. A 5-year-old half-brother named Ami’s Flatter sired by Flatter is a Graded Stakes winner that earned $536,931 and won the $250,000 Commonwealth Stakes (Grade 3) on April 9 at Keeneland.

2017 Sale: Twelve offspring of Giant Gizmo will sell at this fall’s Canadian Premier Yearling Sale, including a filly out of Dynasonet from Tall Oaks Farm’s nine-yearling consignment being sold by Richard Hogan.

3. Shaman Ghost

2016 Review: Multiple Graded Stakes Winner that won the $600,000 Woodward Stakes (Grade 1) on Sept. 3 at Saratoga by a head and the $400,000 Brooklyn Invitational Stakes (Grade 2) on June 11 at Belmont Park. Also finished third in the $500,000 Clark Handicap (Grade 1) on Nov. 25 at Churchill Downs and fifth in the $500,000 Suburban Handicap (Grade 2) on July 9 at Belmont. Ranked 56th in earnings of all thoroughbreds racing in 2016.

Pedigree: The third and most successful of Getback Time’s five foals, Shaman Ghost is closing in on top spot of all-time earnings by Canadian-breds currently held by Ghostzapper’s sire, Awesome Again. Shaman Ghost is the only one of Getback Time’s foals sired by Ghostzapper who stands at Adena Springs Kentucky.

Ranked 98th in earnings of all thoroughbreds racing in 2016.

Pedigree: The youngest and last of Jo Zak’s 12 foals, Caren has been the productive mare’s most successful offspring, though three others — Jill Robin L ($167,270), Narrate ($122,693) and Crafty Zak ($114,370) — have each earned six figures. 2016 Review: Graded Stakes Winner that won the $150,000 Queenston Stakes on May 21 at Woodbine by 7 ¾ lengths, the $119,200 Charlie Barley Stakes on July 3 at Woodbine by 1 ¼ lengths, the $100,000 Allied Forces Stakes on Sept. 11 at Belmont Park by 1 ¾ lengths and the $200,000 Mathis Brothers Mile Stakes (Grade 2) on Dec. 26 at Santa Anita by 1 1/4 lengths. Also was third in the $215,600 Play the King Stakes (Grade 2) on Aug. 20 at Woodbine and third in the $307,800 Nearctic Stakes (Grade 2) on Oct. 16 at Woodbine.

Pedigree: The ninth of Rivermaid Dancing’s 12 foals, River Maid is a full-sister to 10-year-old gelding Race For Gold who has earned over $300,000. A Kinshasa filly named Selembao has earned more than $157,000.
