Updates on Plate workouts from DAILY RACING FORM’S BILL TALLON:
Flip for the Coin drills for Plate
Flip for the Coin, trained by Vito Armata, worked six furlongs in 1:12.80 under regular rider Emile Ramsammy here Wednesday and is headed for the Queen’s Plate.
“Emile hadn’t been on him in his last two works, and I really wanted him to work him today to get to know him again,” Armata said.
Armata had Flip for the Coin break off behind another horse in a designed workout. “I wanted him to chase him and run him down,” Armata said. “He didn’t rate in his last race. He had an awesome work. So far, everything is good, and we’re going to the Queen’s Plate.”
Flip for the Coin, a homebred Ontario-sired gelding who races for Gino Molinaro, has started twice this year, finishing third in first-level restricted allowances at seven furlongs and 1o1/16 miles.
Armata and Molinaro teamed up with 82-1 shot T J’s Lucky Moon to win the 2002 edition of the $1 million Queen’s Plate.
Bucephalus works with blinkers
Bucephalus, who is under consideration for the Queen’s Plate, drilled four furlongs in 48.20 seconds while going in company under regular rider Tyler Pizarro here Tuesday.
“I think he’s been running spotty,” said Kevin Attard, who trains Bucephalus for Knob Hill Stable. “I worked him with some blinkers, to see if we can get him to focus a little bit more. He worked fine.”

IN MEMORY OF GONE FISHIN
– Stakes winner and stallion GONE FISHIN, a handsome, fun loving fellow who has graced the pages of THOROUGHBLOG in recent years, was unfortunately euthanized June 5.
Owner Nicola Scott-Wells reports – “he somehow broke a bone in his forearm/shoulder area while turned out in his paddock. We took him to London Equine Hospital because we originally thought it was a fractured elbow, but it was a bone that could not be repaired.”
Codolences go out to Scott-Wells and the Gone Fishin family.

An exclusive chat with Rachel Alexandra
By DAVID THOMAS
It’s not a Star-Telegram tradition, but it is becoming one: an exclusive interview with a key figure in horse racing’s annual Triple Crown pursuit.
We had three different winners in the three races this year, but Preakness winner Rachel Alexandra was the obvious choice for a post-Triple Crown interview despite not competing in the Kentucky Derby or the Belmont.
The first filly to win the Preakness since 1924 also became the first filly to be interviewed by the Fans’ Insider.
First of all, Miss Alexandra … Please, call me Rachel.
OK, Rachel, did you watch the Belmont Stakes on Saturday? Actually, I did not.
Why not? Unless I’m racing, I always spend my Saturday evenings playing Bunco with some of the other fillies in the stable area. We don’t miss our Bunco night, Triple Crown race on TV or not.
I’m surprised. I thought you have a close relationship with Calvin Borel and would want to see if he could become the first jockey to win all three Triple Crown races on different horses. I’m not particularly close to Calvin. Think about it — he weighs 110 pounds and carries a whip. What’s to like about him?
