This time, LEXIE LOU got the jump and had enough left to win.
The dream season for owner/trainer JOHN ROSS continued as he won 2 races on Sunday including the $125,000 SOUTH OCEAN STAKES with LEXIE LOU, named for a young relative of the Ross family.
The strong bay 2yo, bred by Paradox Farm (Sherry McLean, Moira Gunn) cost just $5,500 as a yearling and she has won almost $300,000. The filly joins GO GREEYLEY, her 2yo male stablemate as one of the top 2yos of the year. Ross bought Go greeyl for his late owner Bud Reynolds last year but when Reynoplds passed away and the family did not want to carry on with the horses, he bought the colt – he’s won over $300,000 too.
Lexie Lou was actually wining her first stakes race as in, crossing in the finish line in front. She was placed first in the Muskoka Stakes in Sept. when On rainbow Bridge interfered with her; She has since been 2nd in the Victorian Queen to Regal Conqueror and 2nd to Paladin Bay in the Princess Elizabeth.
For Paladin Bay, who has had 8 runs this season and a record of 2 -3 -3, she ran hard from off the pace again for the Ladouceuer family. She was a 410,000 yearling by Sligo Bay and certainly that sire should be a hot item for 2014.
Lexie Lou is out of the Mike Pegram bred mare Oneexcessivenite, by In Excess and the mare has had 3 other foals of racing age and none raced.
The BEYER FIGURE was 81.
RACE 1 – THE IMPOSTER snuck up the rail and won his career debut for $50,00 claiming for Robert Tiller, who owns and trains the colt. This son of Wilko – Our Girl Harmony by Concorde’s Tune was bred by Andy Stronach in Ontario. He is a grey colt who posted a 61 Beyer in the race, 6 furlongs in 1:114/4.
You will see that another Tiller 2yo won his debut later in the card in the EXACT same time but received a 49 Beyer.
RACE 2- anyone who watches WOODBINE racing would have been all over EIGHT NINE RED, the 2yo Bold Executive colt who debuted in June and had a tough trip but galloped out strongly. He had been absent since then but powered to a 6 length win at the skimpy odds of even-money.
He is owned by John Russell and George Schramm and trained by Mike DePaulo. Osprey Farm bred the gelding who was a $55,000 yearling purchase.
His time was slower than race 1 so he received a 57 Beyer.
Race 3- an Ontario sired maiden allowance race and MANGUSTA won his debut for Josham farms and trainer Nike Mattine, This is a Street Boss 2yo out of Wthan’s Car by Cat Thirf. He had big workout times and he rallied nicely in the stretch to win with a 54 Beyer Figure.
Race 4- more 2yos – these were fillies going 1 1/16 miles for $20,000 and it was JAM JAR LEGACY, named for the late Bud Reynold’s stable, who won for John Ross. This is a Langfuhr filly bred by Gus Schickedanz and she was a $14,000 yearling. She was claimed by Bar None Ranches.
Race 5- SARASOTA SUNRISE, in the care of her 3rd different trainer in one year, won the $20,00 claiming race for 3yo fillies. She won twice for Brian Lunch this year but is now trained by Nick Gonzalez. She is a homebred for Garland Williamson.
Race 6 – TULIO’S BREW a beginner for owner/breeder Frank DiGiulio, won his debut in 1:11 4/5, the same time as stablemate The Imposter in race 1 but it appears as if the Beyer raters prject a faster surface later in the day., He was tabbed at a 49 eyer only.
This is the first foal of the very good mare YOLIE, who won $300K and he is a son of Milwaukee Brew. Robert Tiller trains.
Race 7 More Luis Contreras as he won on AIR BLADE for James Redekop in this $40,00 claiming race. The Beyer was 77 and this Ghostzapper 4yo is 2 for 7 this year.
Race 9 the highest Beyer of the day went to DANGER BAY, who won a 4 horse allowance race that was supposed to be the big return of last year’s Display Stakes winner Avie’s Quality. That 3yo, who has not raced since an 8th in the Lecomte
Race 10 – 5 WIN WEEK FOR ROBERT TILLER was completed by gritty REFRESHINGMEMORIES who won the last race by a long nose for Goldmart Farms.

SATURDAY AT WOODBINE –
PARISE came off a one-year-layoff for Mario Forgione and trainer John Charalambous and won a maiden allowance in the 1st race on Saturday. He is a Tiznow colt bred by BLAZING COLOURS FARM and he is out of the stakes winning mare Officer Cherrie.
WILD N CLEVER won a maiden allowance for 2yo fillies for Tucci Stables, race 2, giving EMMA-JAYNE WILSON the Daily Double. This is an Offlee Wild filly out of Sweet and Clever, bred by Denny Andrews. Nick Gonzalez trains.
It was rough weather on Saturday with lots of wind, cold, flurries, then some sun. The track was kinder to speed in the first four races. CRY WAREAGLE won a 4 horse race in the 3rd, an allowance event. Race 4 went to MILWAUKEE RED, a Robert Tiller trainee for was 5 to 1 for her 2nd career race and she beat the stablemate, SWEATER WEATHER, who was lower odds. The winner is yet another 2yo winner for Milwaukee Brew and PARADOX FARM bred this Ben Hutzel owned miss.
race 5 – a maiden allowance for older Ontario sired guys and this was a messy race won by MOLINARO FT KNIGHT, the 2nd winner of 2013 for trainer Vito Armata with his 62nd start. This gelding looked good strolling away to take his maiden in his 6th race under Steve Bahen.
ROYAL SLAM won the 6th for Mike Doyle and partner and she is 2 for 8 this year. She is a very honest Grand Slam filly bred by Christine Hayden.
Race 7 was a very competitive non-winners of 1’other than’ allowance and it was JAGGER M who snuck up the inside to beat HOLY WHIRL WIND with an 81 Beyer Figure. It was the 2nd win in 11 races this year for JAGGER M who is strictly a Polytrack sprinter.
JENNY COME LATELY, trained by Sandy McPherson came from miles back but was on time to win the 11th on Saturday while other winners included GRACE PHIL and TANGO KID.
