Sean and Dorothy Fitzhenry are having a year to remember with their horses, their own they kept to race and the homebreds they have sold.

Saturday, their boy MR. HAVERCAMP came back home from a trip to Saratoga, grabbed his first stakes victory in the Vice Regent for Ontario sired 3-year-olds, earning an 88 Beyer Figure for his 3rd win in 4 races. The son of Court Vision – Tennessee Lamb by Medaglia d’Oro reportedly lost a show during the race but he rallied strongly under Eurico da Silva and won by a length over champion King and His Court.

The time was 1:33.82 for the 1 mile on turf.

The gelding had been 5th in the Saranac Stakes (Grade 2) in his previous outing. Trainer by Catherine Day Phillips, Mr Havercamp is one of several big stories for the Fitzhenrys this year. Their 3-year-old GUY CABALLERO won the Plate Trial Stakes and took the couple to the Queen’s Plate for the first time.

They might even go to the Breeders’Cup with their 2yo filly DIXIE MOON, who was 2nd in the Grade 1 Natalma.

They are also the breeders of stakes winner Stallion Heiress this year.

Meanwhile, Dan Gale and Richard Hogan’s 4-year-old SHAKHIMAT is finally back.

It was been quite a journey for this Lonhro fellow who took local racing by storm as a 2yo and 3yo. He won the Coronation Futurity and Grade 3 Transylvania, was 2nd in the Plate Trial and then 5th in the Plate before going to the sidelines. This year he had been on the edges in 6 races.

On Saturday, in a $62,500 optional claiming race (he was not offered for the tag, the handsome dark bay roared to a course-record 1 1/16 miles on turf, 1:38.34, good for a huge 101 Beyer Figure.

Roger Attfield trains Shakhimat and Eurico da Silva rode.

Saturday saw some trainers get their first wins. Debra Rombis got her first win of the meeting when FINE GRIT took the first race for maidens, $12,500. John Staples win with Marilyns Last Love for $16,000.

Wagering on Saturday Woodbine was a hefty $5.3 million.

TESSERON ROLLS in Turf Endurance

from Woodbine media

Just like the recent weather that’s dominated the Toronto area, Tesseron is turning up the heat in the Woodbine Turf Endurance Series after a thoroughly dominant win on Saturday.
A grey son of Tapit, Tesseron, under a confident Emma-Jayne Wilson, strutted away from his rivals with ease down the long E.P. Taylor Turf Course, securing his second straight score and third triumph in his past four starts.

It was 51-1 outsider O Wanderlust, under Davy Moran, who took immediate control of the 1 5/8-mile race, with Wilson and Tesseron keeping close tabs on the pacesetter from second spot through a half-mile in :55.16.

Things remained status quo after a mile timed in 1:46.08, as Tesseron waited for his cue from Wilson. As the field rounded the turn for home, the champion rider called on the second choice on the toteboard and he responded with a lightning-quick move to assume control, then widened his advantage at will to win by five lengths.

Sine Metu was second, while O Wanderlust and Liddyup were third and fourth, respectively.

The final time was 2:44.51, contested over ‘firm’ going. He earned an 82 Beyer Speed Figure.

It was the sixth career triumph from 25 starts for the Kentucky-bred gelding, trained by Harold Ladouceur. Bred by Magalen O. Bryant, Tesseron has three wins and a pair of thirds from six starts on the campaign.

The seven-year-old, who received 10 points for the win, now has 25 after the third leg of four races in the series, 10 clear of closet rival Sine Metu, who has 15 points.

The series, which began in July, concludes on October 22 with the final 2-1/4 mile marathon event. At stake is a $15,000 bonus and trophy for the winning connections of the point leader.
Open to any horse with preference given to horses with the most points, Turf Endurance Series horses earn points each race: 1st = 10 points, 2nd = 7 points, 3rd = 5 points, 4th = 3 points, 5th = 2 points, all other entrants = 1 point.
Tesseron paid $5.80, $3.40 and $2.70, combining with Sine Metu ($7, $4.40) for a $27.90 (3-5) exactor. A 3-5-6 triactor (O Wanderlust, $11.40 to show) was worth $391. A $1 Superfecta of 3-5-6-7 (Liddyup) returned $921.05.

JORGE NAVARRO INTERVIEW – trainer apologizes on in-house show

In case you missed it, the Jorge Navarro news continued Saturday with the victory by his trainee SHARP AZTECA in the Kelso and his interview with Gabby Gaudet for NYRA.

Navarro has been on the hot seat in the last 2 weeks for a dreadful video that came out when he and an owner were filmed watching one of their horses win. I am not posting it here but the video can be readily found. Navarro and the owner are screaming at the TV about how much money they won on the horse, they imply cheating etc.

So NYRA, which allowed him to enter horses (other tracks have not) seemed to coax the trainer into speaking on camera in some what of a trade:
