JUNIOR ATTORNEY, a son of turf star Crown Attorney, made his first career turf run a winning one despite losing a lot lately for $12,500 claiming. In fact, Tony and Mary Jane Lamb’s fellow had not won a race of any kind in a couple of seasons but there he was, looking like a new horse on the grass.
He sped 7 furlongs on baked turf in 1:21 1/5 good for a career best Beyer Figure of 79.
At 2 6 to 1 Junior Attorney won by 3 lengths over 3- to 1 shot Harrier, 54 to 1 shot Pirate’s Legend and 26 to 1 chance Simply Bold.
The tote board lit up with a $36,000 triactor (pool $51,000) and a $34K superfecta payoff for the top three with ‘all’.
Junior Attorney’s 4th dam is Royal Colleen, dam of Kathie’s Colleen, who produced Wando.
MY ISLAND GIRL is 4 for 4 this year now with her 3rd win at Woodbine Wednesday night. The Malibu Moon filly had not raced since May 12.

WEEKEND OUTLOOK
Some good horses in action this weekend but three stakes races at Woodbine have a pair of 5 horse fields and a 6 horse field.
Tomorrow, the Ontario Damsel Stakes, which used to be a packed field of 3yo fillies racing 6 1/2 furlongs on turf, has 5 including big favourite SOMME, from JIm and Alice Sapara’s stable.
Sunday, EMBUR’S SONG has returned to Woodbine for the BISON CITY STAKES, the 2nd leg of the Triple Tiara. The 3rd place finisher in the Woodbine Oaks should be odds on to beat 4 rivals as her main competition, ROAN INISH and MOMENT OF MAJESTY both ran in last weekend’s Plate.
Also on Sunday is the Ontario Jockey Club Stakes on the grass for locally bred runners.
SCHICKEDANZ AT FORT ERIE
The first of the Bruno Schickedanz horses that had to leave Woodbine will race at Fort Erie on Sunday. LOVELY PRINCESS, previously trained by Greg de Gannes, will start in the 2nd race Sunday in a maiden allowance for trainer Mike Wright Jr.
MIKE’S CLOTH SELLING BIG!
Queen’s Plate winner Big Red Mike’s saddle cloth, signed by Eurico Rosa Da Silva (it says ‘good luck to everybody’ on it too) is up to $1,498 on ebay during the fund raising saddle cloth auction hosted by LongRun Thoroughbred Retirement Society.

Patience produces outstanding race horse
No Hesitation wins last two outings since returning to Alberta

Jim Meyaard has broken more horses than the lead cast of Twilight has broken hearts or Bernie Madoff broke clients. Which is to say considerable.
“You lose count, of course, but I’d say somewhere between 1,500 and 1,800,” Meyaard said of the number of horses he has “broken” to trust him and then allow someone to get on their backs.
But the easiest horse he ever broke was No Hesitation, the favourite for Saturday’s Ky Alta, the first time Canadian Derby hopefuls go a mile.
“I broke him in Nebraska,” said Meyaard, who continues to send out winners at a 38-per-cent clip.

Singh’s sigh of relief
Can relax now after reaching 1,000-win milestone

Rohan Singh can finally breathe a little easier.
Now that’s he’s captured his 1,000th victory at Assiniboia Downs, the veteran jockey can simply focus on running his race as milestones are no longer a concern.
“Reaching 1,000 wins anywhere is special,” said Singh, who accomplished the feat in the final race on the card last Saturday. “There are only six guys ahead of me in the history book. Once you’re down in the history book, they can’t take that away from you.”
Singh admits the pursuit of the milestone was beginning to weigh on him.
“You can’t help but think about it and people keep asking you about it,” said Singh. “I was down to the last one and everybody knew about it and it seemed like I wanted to win it more for them than for me. Anytime somebody gets near a milestone, it seems like time just stops. It’s hard to get the one and get over that hump.”
