RISEN STAR STAKES – Competitive field has 4 colts by Uncle Mo
Kentucky.com feature:
BY ALICIA WINCZE HUGHES
When evaluating 3-year-olds on the Triple Crown trail, the form of those around them is often analyzed as heartily as each horse’s individual results.
A victory can be elevated or diminished by those posing the question: Who did they beat? These youngsters are unfailingly judged by the company they keep.
To that end, the participants of last November’s Grade II Kentucky Jockey Club Stakes at Churchill Downs are in strong favor to this point. A handful of them will be reunited in Saturday’s Grade II, $400,000 Risen Star Stakes at Fair Grounds as they attempt to further flatter themselves in the first of the Kentucky Derby prep races offering 50 qualifying points to the victor.

AT GULFSTREAM – The 20-cent Rainbow 6 carryover jackpot for Saturday’s 12-race program swelled to $1,408,216.98 Friday at Gulfstream Park when multiple tickets with all six winners were sold.
A total of $397,816 was wagered Friday on the Rainbow 6, which spanned Races 6-11. Winning tickets with all six winners were each worth $11,294.22.
The carryover jackpot is only paid out when there is a single unique ticket sold with all six winners. On days when there is no unique ticket, 70 percent of that day’s pool goes back to those bettors holding tickets with the most winners, while 30 percent is carried over to the jackpot pool.
Since last being hit by one lucky better for $76,799.38 on Jan. 13, the popular multi-race wager has gone unsolved for 28 consecutive programs. The largest Rainbow 6 payoff of the current Championship Meet was $262,634.84 on Jan. 7.
In addition to the life-changing Rainbow 6 carryover, Gulfstream will offer guarantees for the Late Pick 4 and Late Pick 5. The pool for the Late Pick 4 (Races 9-12) will be guaranteed for $300,000, while the Late Pick 5 (Races 8-12) will have a $200,000 pool guarantee.
Saturday’s Rainbow 6 will span Races 7-12 in a six-race sequence that will include the $75,000 Melody of Colors, a five-furlong turf stakes for 3-year-old fillies carded as the 11th race.
