COREY NAKATANI PICKS UP EDDIE
• Corey Nakatani, who won 13 races from 174 mounts at the recently completed Santa Anita meeting (Dec. – April) will ride Canadian-bred SQUARE EDDIE in the Kentucky Derby a week from this coming Saturday.
SQUARE EDDIE jogged around the Churchill Downs strip yesterday.
SMOOTHER ROAD
• The New York Daily News reports that QUALITY ROAD’S quarter crack problem is “a done deal,” said hoof specialist Ian McKinlay.
Quality Road suffered the quarter crack to his right hind hoof during his track record-setting victory over Dunkirk in the Florida Derby on March 28. “It’s ice cold,” McKinlay said of the hoof. “He’s moving well and he’s ready to go.”

SPRINTERS SET FOR JACQUES CARTIER
• Woodbine has a large card for Saturday racing – over 100 horses for 10 races including two stakes. While the stakes events offer the smallest fields, the JACQUES CARTIER, the day’s feature, marks the return of multiple Canadian champion JUDITHS WILD RUSH to Woodbine.
The big grey horse, owned by Harvey Tenenbaum, has been trained by numerous people over his career including Reade Baker, who is back training the horse. Baker was the trainer when the horses was champion sprinter in 2005 and 2006.
Curiously, the big guy has not sprinted in more than a year and has only actually sprinted twice in two years. An iron horse, Judith’s Wild Rush has been going steadily for 5 ½ years without much of a break. On Saturday he will seek his first win on synthetic dirt – he is 0 for 9 – and he was 2nd in this race 2 years ago to Stradivinsky.
