ROYAL ASCOT BANS SKIMPY SKIRTS, FASCINATORS, FANCY HATS ETC.
report from ANNA PUKAS at Express.co.uk:

GOODNESS knows what the Duchess of Cambridge is going to do come June, not to mention her

cousins-in-law Princesses Beatrice and Eugenie.

The powers-that-be at Royal Ascot have decreed that fascinators are to be banned from the

royal enclosure this year.

Organisers of the five-day race meeting, which is annually attended by all the royals, have decided

that the decline in sartorial standards in recent years, which has seen race-goers turn up  in pelmet skirts and backless numbers, must not be permitted to sink even further.

To this end women will be required to wear proper hats. To avoid any loose interpretation

of the term “hat” precise definitions have been issued. All head gear must have a base of at least four inches or 10cm in diameter, which definitely rules out hairbands or those little saucer-y discs on which fascinators are usually built.

KELSEY LEFEVER – WHAT KIND OF MONSTERS LURK OUT THERE?

from Harrisburg Inquirer
Police say buyer was selling horses to slaughterhouses

By Amy Worden

HARRISBURG – Kelsey Lefever was well-known in the Pennsylvania horse world.

The 24-year-old horse trainer from Chester County competed at the Devon Horse Show and traded show ponies and draft horses on the Internet. At Penn National, near Harrisburg, one of the biggest racetracks in the state, she schmoozed thoroughbred owners, telling them she would find great homes for their horses when their racing careers were over.

In fact, state police allege, Lefever was selling the horses – as many as 120, by her admission – to contractors for a Canadian slaughterhouse, where they were butchered and shipped overseas for human consumption.

Lefever, of Honeybrook, was arrested in November and charged with five counts of fraud – three of them felonies – for selling four horses last May to a “kill buyer” who transported them to an abattoir in Quebec.

A preliminary hearing is scheduled for Feb. 6.
