THE BIG THREE
Collectively, the Grade 1 Canadian International, E.P. Taylor and Nearctic Stakes are 3 races in a row that are going to be exciting and fun to watch Saturday on the last big day of racing at Woodbine for 2009.
The grass races are events 8 through 10 on the 11 race card.
A Pick 4 and Pick 3 are offered using those races.
Whether the Win and You’re In events have any impact on the Breeders Cup on the first weekend of November remains to be seen but the races are intriguing from a betting standpoint.

INTERNATIONAL/TAYLOR IN THE NEWS
TORONTO STAR – Stakes are big in Canadian International
The upcoming Breeders’ Cup is horse racing’s ultimate road trip, returning fame, glory, big money and the blackest of type to make up for the saddle sores and it’s very much in the nippy autumn air this weekend at Woodbine.
Saturday’s Canadian International winner will get an automatic ticket into that extravaganza, along with 1.2 million of our incredibly expanding dollars. Six different flags were flying around beautiful downtown Rexdale yesterday and the subject of travel was up for debate, with a compact crowd of invaders in town for International No. 72 and its sister race, the distaff-only E.P. Taylor.

from Press Association:
Crowley ready for Taylor test
(UKPA) – 1 hour ago
Jim Crowley is excited to be getting the leg up on Look Here for a second time in the E.P. Taylor Stakes at Woodbine on Saturday night.
The jockey rode last year’s Oaks winner for the first time in the Dubai Duty Free Arc Trial at Newbury last month and came very close to making the perfect start as the filly was beaten just a nose by Doctor Fremantle.
“It was a pretty good run last time after she had disappointed in the King George, so it was nice to see her go and run a good race again,” Crowley told At The Races.
“Everything should suit her in Canada and I think Doctor Fremantle is a very good horse.
“Rainbow View is probably the one to beat but we have a very good chance and I’m just really looking forward to it.”
WOODBINE WEDNESDAY NOTES
Double dippin for Delmas
There is plenty of buzz at Woodbine these days with the big races this weekend and the presence of so many very cool horses on the grounds.
There’s also plenty of buzz about so many different incidents that have occurred in recent weeks that the Ontario racing Comission is having to sift through.
One of the latest curious events was that of Sunday’s 8th race when Bigger Breeze was inadvertently hit in the nose with the whip of a rival jockey (Patrick Husbands) when 2nd in a good race.
No inquiry was put up but from most angles, the smack in the nose is quite obvious.
And to add insult to injury, Bigger Breeze’s rider GERRY OLGUIN was actually fined $200 for a whip infraction (more than 3 times in a row, he hit him 5 times in a row) on the horse in that very race.
Last night, a pair of 1 1/2 mile Polytrack races were won by Ron Delmas’ Fieldstone Farms runners, MOGUL in a maiden race and VENABLO in a starter allowance.
The former was expected to win and the Wendy Rose-bred son of A Fleets Dancer won for $15,00 claiming after a dream trip behind a 3 horse spee duel.
VENABLO was a surprise as 3 to 5 favourite LORD KIPLING was too close to the pace and perhaps not comfortable at the distance for invading trainer Scott Lake and the homebred by Porto Foricos won for the 2nd time in his last 3 races.
He also ran about 5 seconds faster than Mogul did for the same distance.
Analisa Delmas trains for her father.
Old-timer MARCO BE GOOD WON ON THE HUGE DROP FROM $40,000 CLAIMING TO $21,500 LAST NIGHT. The 7-YEAR-OLD stakes winner went over the $500,000 mark in earnings with that 8th career win in his 52nd start. He is owned and was bred by Dom Romeo and trained by Nick Gonzalez.
BEAR TOUGH GUY OUT
Bear Stable’s hotshot 2yo BEAR TOUGH GUY, who just won the Grade 3 Grey Stakes in his 2nd career strat, is out for reportedly 6 months with an injury incurred during the running of the Grey.
The Reade Baker trainee was expected to make the Breeders’ Cup but he is now laid up.
LINDROS
1997-2009
In life, he will be remembered as a fesity, hard knocking racehorse.
In death, he will be remembered for the joy he brought to special needs people and kids as a physical therapy riding horse.
Lindros (Strike the Gold – Chateau d’Irlande) was euthanized after a severe and sudden gas colic attack recently at his home at Windreach Farm.
The gelding was a subject of a chapter in the new book SECOND CHANCE HORSES, available at fine bookstores everywhere.
See video about Lindros’ career in retirement as a therapy horse at WindReach Farm at:

CANADIAN BRED WINNER AT DELAWARE
from Thoroughbred Daily News
MAGICALCARPETRIDE (f, 3, Smart Strike–Catch the Moment, by Unbridled) broke her maiden by a nose
over an extended mile of this course last Nov. 10, but was sidelined with a potentially career-threatening
fracture of the third metacarpal bone out of a subsequent breeze Dec. 19. The recovery was lengthy, but
the $220,000 FTSAUG yearling made it back to the races Aug. 8 and was victorious, scoring by 4 3/4
lengths. Sent off a 7-10 to make it three straight overall, Magicalcarpetride set a good pace inside, was
briefly overtaken by Me Love, but fought back and found the line a neck ahead of Miss
Match (Arg) (Indygo Shiner). Me Love was third. Lifetime Record: 4-3-0-0, $85,470.
