The WOODBINE OAKS, to be run for the 55TH TIME, on Sunday at 5:16 p.m., is to be drawn tomorrow at WEGZ STADIUM bar,along with the PLATE TRIAL STAKES.
The fields for both races figure to be small – the Oaks has eight, Trial perhaps 7 or 8, but there is some intrigue to go along with the races.
The Oaks could be wide open if big favourite EMBUR’S SONG cannot handle the 9 furlong distance or any pace pressure in what will be her 3rd career race. Reportedly, no horse has won the Oaks off just 2 career races in the past.
ERNFOLD is a popular pick for western Canadian owners JIM AND SUSAN HILL and trainer Roger Attfield. The filly was recently 2nd to champion BIOFUEL, who would seemingly win the Oaks if she were Canadian-bred.
But there are longshot possibilities in the form of MOMENT OF MAJESTY, one of very few offpsring of Saint Liam that are racing (the sire died early in his stud career).
The filly was 3rd behind Ernfold in her 2nd race off the layoff and could be posied to run a big one.
ROAN INISH has been trained into the Oaks by newcomer Carolyn Costigan, who trains the homebred for her father Robert. Roan Inish was the first winner for Costigan last year when she won the Princess Elizabeth Stakes.
RESENTLESS is a good one, she is 3 for 6 with 2 stakes wins, but was very, very ill not too long ago and she’s had 2 workouts since her May 1 season debut.

CUJO ADDS SOME BITE TO OAKS
Curtis Joseph might have played nearly 1,000 games in the NHL, but the former goaltender and thoroughbred owner has never had a starter in the Woodbine Oaks, presented by Budweiser, until this year.
Co-owned by Joseph, hockey agent Don Meehan and trainer Sue Leslie, Moment of Majesty, a two-year-old daughter of Saint Liam, represents the trio’s first Oaks filly.
Moment of Majesty has never finished lower than fifth over her seven-race career, winning twice along with two thirds.
“She was quick to accept new challenges from the outset,” said Leslie, of the Ontario-bred. “And she does it all with class. From the start, she had an attitude of, ‘I’m good.'”
Her three stakes appearances, all contested at 1 1/16 miles, have yielded one fifth (Princess Elizabeth) and two thirds (Ontario Lassie and La Lorgnette). On Sunday, she’ll travel 1 1/8 miles, the furthest she has ever gone to date.
“There is no concern at all when it comes to the distance,” offered Leslie.
Joseph, Meehan and Leslie have 25 wins and 89 top-three finishes from 196 career starts. Their one stakes winner is Millennium Allstar, who took the 2001 Achievement Stakes, finished second in the Queenston and Plate Trial Stakes, before finishing eighth in the Queen’s Plate.
Robert Landry, who has three Oaks wins, will ride Moment of Majesty.
CBC TO SHOW WOODBINE OAKS/PLATE TRIAL
CBC will televise the Woodbine Oaks, presented by Budweiser and the Plate Trial in a special presentation from 4:30 pm ET – 5:30 pm ET. Post time for the Oaks is 5:16 pm ET (Race 9) and Plate Trial is 4:41 pm ET (Race 8).
Mark Lee will host the telecast with analysts Jim Bannon and Renee Kierans. Reporting on the action are Sandy Hawley, and Dawn Lupul on horseback. The producer is Jeff Pearlman. Dan Loiselle will call the races.
TVG, the renowned U.S. horse racing channel, will also be on hand at Woodbine to produce its own broadcast of the Oaks/Plate Trial for air back home. Hosts will be Todd Schrupp and Simon Bray.

NYUK NYUK NYUK WINS AT THE FORT
Nine-year-old NYUK NYUK NYUK won for the 15th time in his career on Saturday at Fort Erie for $10,000 claiming. The son of Mutakkdim- May Time, bred by Liz and Gordon Lickrish, is currently owned and trained by Anthony Adamo.
The gelding has won over $758,000 in his career. He won about $260,000 for Frank DiGiulio Jr and trainer Robert Tiller and $350,000 for Tucci Stables.
BENT ATTORNEY won another Fort Erie stake when she took Saturday’s Rainbow Connection which came off the grass.
