It may have been a very dark, cold, icky day at Woodbine (a la Secretariat in 1973) but the racing action was hot and furious – so many close finishes on the day including in two of the 3 Grade 1 events.
SARAH LYNX’S 108 Beyer Figure in the Canadian International tied for the HIGHEST by any grass horse in North American this season.
The 4yo filly, one of 2 winners by the top sire MONTJEU (Ire) on the day, rode the good rail path to her 4 length International romp. Just one person was here with the feisty filly (trainer John Hammond likens her attitude as ‘tricky as a bag of snakes’, assistant Kate Bradley, who galloped the filly and brought her over for the big dance.

Sarah Lynx earned $900,000 for the win and also lit up the tote board, paying $46.90, $21.40 and $13.80. Her win price was the third highest since 1958, behind Marsh Side ($61.20) in 2008 and Nassipour ($57.20) in 1985.
She combined with Joshua Tree ($12.30, $8.40) for a $659.50 (1-7) exactor. A 1-7-13 (Treasure Beach, $4.10 to show) triactor came back $3,699 while a $1 Superfecta [1-7-13-2 (Arctic Cosmos)] returned $16,309.95.
The Pattison Canadian International card produced a record handle for the day of $6,400,112
SARAH LYNX was expected to head to the Japan Cup later in November.

Meanwhile MISS KELLER (Ire) returned to her championship form from last season when named the Sovereign Award winning turf mare. Unplaced in all 5 races this year – she had ‘female problems’ according to trainer Roger Attfield, the mare, who was sold for $700,000 last November and attracted a few other partners for Three Chimneys, won a thrilling finish after a super, pinpointed ride by John Velazquez.
The winning Beyer of 94 was a bit better than the Montjeu (Ire_ has been running this season.
Three Chimneys is expected to announce if the mare will be sold at Tattersalls next month or will head to the Breeders’ Cup.

REGALLY READY led all the way in the Nearctic of the 3 Win and You’re IN races, will indeed go to the Breeders’ Cup Turf Sprint. The son of More Than Ready was 9 to 1 from his wide post in the Nearctic but he was never really challenged.
Actually, the main scare were the pylons after the wire and he ducked in and almost lost jockey Corey Nakatani.
His Beyer Figure was a 94.
The super run by GYPSY RING, owned and bred by Paul Buttigieg, was a local highlight of the Neartic. The Where’s the Ring fellow was a close 3rd at 50 to 1.

WHAT DO WE DO NOW?
WOODBINE HEADS INTO it’s final 35 days this week sans EURICO ROSA DA SILVA, who broke an ankle in a horrifying accident on Saturday. The rider had to pull up his mount when a broke down rival kicked out a leg and jurt Da Silva in the Cup & Saucer Stakes.
In the news this week will be FORT ERIE’S status for 2012 (there is a meeting today) and WOODBINE’S DATES FOR 2012 – the buzz is that there will be a lot of THURSDAY RACING DATES WIPED OUT in the summer and a number of dates added to the end of the season….say tuned…
