He won the Grade 2 Play the King Stakes by a nose this year at Woodbine and had a pair of good, 5thplace finishes in both the Woodbine Mile and Canadian International This is one versatile, tough dude.
REPORTING STAR may not win all that often, and he has not had a lot of lucky breaks, but this feisty Canadian owned gelding got it done in the $100,000 El Prado Stakes on Saturday at Gulfstream for Copper Water Thoroughbreds of Chad and Christa Joe of Vancouver and trainer Pat Parente.
Ivan Dalos’ VICTORY EXCHANGE, a winner of his lone start off a year layoff at Woodbine, was expected to compete but was noticeably lame in post parade and was scratched by the commission vet before the race.

At Gulfstream, think out of the box when you are betting! Jockey John Cruz rode winners at 64 to 1 and 83 to 1 on the card!
Ontario bred BEST BEHAVIOUR was 2nd in the Grade 3 Rampart Handicap at 1 mile on the dirt. She is an Into Mischief filly bred by James and Janeane Everatt and Arika Everatt-Meeuse in St. Thomas.
At PENN NATIONAL, Scott Fairlie’s NATURAL BLONDE, a hard trying mare by Mobil, won for $6,250 and was claimed.
TAPETA settling in at Woodbine
The Tapeta synthetic surface is now being laid down on the base* of the Woodbine main track and it should be completed by Jan. 1.
The remarkably mild weather had helped the Woodbine team get things rolling right along.
(* there is reportedly a few inches of Polytrack still on the track on top of the tarmac, Thoroughblog will find out more this week)

As far as how different the Tapeta is from Polytrack, well, both are essentially wax-covered dirt-type surfaces. The Polytrack needed to be replaced, however. Here are two diagrams of the surfaces:

HIGHLAND REEL, winner of the Secretariat Stakes at Arlington Park in the summer, fended off Flintshire in the late stages of the Hong Kong Vase at Sha Tin. He is a son of Galileo out of a Danehill mare from the Aidan O’Brien stable. Canadian International winner CANNOCK CHASE was never involved.
The up and coming colt MAURICE, by Screen Hero, won the Mile as Mondialiste, the Woodbine Mile winner, was well back.
RYAN MOORE, who rode the 2 winners, received a suspension on Maurice and another one from a previous day’s racing at Happy Valley.

Ryan Moore underlined his reputation on the world stage as he grabbed two more big winners at the Hong Kong international meeting on board Highland Reel and Maurice.
The three-time champion jockey first landed the £778,559 Hong Kong Vase on Aidan O’Brien-trained Highland Reel before winning the £1.085million Mile on Japanese raider Maurice, who denied locally trained hero Able Friend.
Moore was close to an amazing treble as his Japanese mount Nuovo Record was a fast-finishing second to surprise winner A Shin Hikari in the £1.179m Hong Kong Cup.
