ROCKET TWENTYONE – Canadian bred in Juvenile Fillies

Here’s her win in the Arlington Washington Lassie:

Prospective works for Juvenile

brisnet.com:
It was a busy Monday morning for trainer Mark Casse as he sent out no fewer than three probable Breeders’ Cup starters to breeze beneath the Twin Spires for owner John Oxley.

The first horse to breeze for Casse was Prospective, a $250,000 Fasig-Tipton Saratoga Yearling purchase who captured the Grade 3 Grey Stakes over the Polytrack at Woodbine. The juvenile son of Malibu Moon worked five furlongs in 1:02.

Starting four lengths behind his workmate Saturday Classic, Prospective recorded fractions of :13 3/5, :26 4/5, :38 3/5 and crossed the wire five lengths in front under Luis Contreras, who was aboard for the Grey triumph. He galloped out six furlongs in 1:16.

“He worked about as well as a horse can work,” Casse said. “When we brought him here [to Churchill Downs] we thought there was only a 10 percent chance we would enter him in the Juvenile, but he worked himself into the race. He reminded us a lot of Pool Play.”

The Casse-trained Pool Play won the Grade 1 Stephen Foster Handicap in his first start on dirt. Prospective debuted on turf and his next two starts have been on Polytrack.

Stepping on to the track shortly after the renovation break was Grade 3 Natalma Stakes winner Northern Passion. Starting two lengths behind workmate Delightful Magic, a juvenile daughter of Mineshaft who only lost by a length to Juvenile Fillies hopeful My Miss Aurelia in her career debut, Northern Passion completed the work even with her stablemate in 1:02 under Contreras.

“We’re really happy with the work,” Casse said.

Northern Passion is likely to be cross-entered in the Juvenile Fillies and the Juvenile Fillies Turf.

“If I had to make the decision right now, I would say we are leaning toward the [Juvenile Fillies] turf,” Casse said. “She worked very well over the dirt this morning, but we already know she handles the turf well.”

The last Oxley-Casse duo to hit the Churchill Downs track was Spirited Miss and Sky High Lady. Both horses are coming out of performances in the Mazarine Stakes on the Polytrack at Woodbine. Spirited Miss finished second by a head and Sky High Lady battled a troubled trip to finish fourth.

Under Contreras, Spirited Miss started three lengths behind Sky High Lady, guided by Shaun Bridgmohan, and the two fillies crossed the wire together. Spirited Miss was credited with a five-furlong breeze in 1:01 4/5 and Sky High Lady was clocked in 1:02 2/5.

“Both horses worked well,” Casse said. “We are likely to cross-enter Spirited Miss in the Juvenile Fillies Turf and Juvenile Fillies, but we’re leaning toward running her on the dirt. Most likely we wouldn’t enter her and Northern Passion in the same race.”

FORT ERIE WRAPS UP NOV. 1

Quarter Horse Stakes Action Wraps for the Season

October 22, Fort Erie…There were two stakes races on a full card of Quarter Horse racing today. The 2nd running of the 440-yard Fort Erie Derby went to the very fast filly Candy Cartel. The three-year-old, by Corona Cartel out of This Candy’s Special dominated the field finishing in 22.02 seconds and earning a speed index of 99. “It was easy, she’s a very classy filly,” said Oklahoma-based jockey Daniel Rose. “It’s a privilege to come here and ride for Clint,” said Rose. The nearly unstoppable trainer Clint Crawford grabbed the lion’s share of the $35,000 added purse for owner Carl Pevehouse. The Sandra Laszlo-trained Cat Vision was second, nosing out Frozen Ocean. Candy Cartel paid $5.00 to win.

The ninth race on the card was the 2nd running of the $50,000 added Fort Erie Maturity at 400 yards. The joy was all with The Diamond Side, a four-year-old by the Down Side out of Pritzi Diamond. This was the eight win for the gelding who, on September 20th, won the Ontario Bred Derby at Ajax Downs. Bred by owners Joyce and Erik Lehtinen, The Diamond Side was being retired after the race today. “He’s going out with a bang,” said Lehtinen. “To date, he is the best horse we have ever bred.” Jockey Helen Vanek has a special attachment to The Diamond Side as she was involved in his breaking and training. “He broke impressively, he gets brave on the front end,” said Vanek. The Diamond Side nosed out One Kool Shake, finishing in 20.05 seconds he returned $30.90 to his backers.

Live Thoroughbred racing continues at Fort Erie every Saturday, Sunday, Monday and Tuesday.  First race post time is 12:45.  Closing day for the 2011 racing season is November 1st.

EQUIWINNER:

You Can Stop Equine Bleeding; Healthy Blood Pressure is the Key

Most evidence indicates EIPH in horses is caused by extra high blood pressure in the pulmonary circulation during exercise causing capillaries to rupture, vein remodeling and further damage when blood leaks into healthy lung tissue.  Now there’s an effective, natural treatment that can restore healthy blood pressure and prevent bleeding completely: an electrolyte-balancing patch marketed under the trade name “Equiwinner™”.

Mesa, AZ (Oct. 25, 2011) – Bleeding in horses (Exercise Induced Pulmonary Hemorrhage, EIPH) is now widely accepted as being associated with extra high blood pressure in the pulmonary circulation when the horse is under exertion1.  Bleeding, and its consequences, not only affects performance negatively, it is a risk to the horse’s health and general well being and should not be ignored.

In addition, researchers at Michigan State University believe that every time a horse exercises, not just during a race, the pressure goes up in its lungs enough to stretch veins, causing the veins to remodel.   Severe remodeling leads to rerouting of blood to nearby areas thus raising the pressure there.

The goal, therefore, is to restore normal, healthy blood pressure.  Normal blood pressure is the low resting to very high racing scale of blood pressure found in a free running wild horse, or a domesticated endurance horse, rising with exertion but not so high as to cause distress or bleeding.  The extra high blood pressure associated with bleeding is caused by capillary loss known as rarefaction when the electrolyte balance has deteriorated.  This loss of an essential part of the circulatory system is well known in humans to cause blood pressure to rise.

Furosemide, a diuretic, will temporarily reduce blood pressure by excreting water, but now there is a better, more effective alternative to continually treating for high blood pressure.

That solution is a patented, non-invasive dermal patch that serves as a natural electrolyte balancing system.  Developed by Therapina Ltd in the United Kingdom, the SmartCell SignalTM system restores normal cell metabolism by stimulating communication directly between cells in the horse’s body. The patch is marketed under the trade name, “Equiwinner™”.

Equiwinner resets electrolyte balance and starts to work almost immediately and, combined with only walking exercise for a total of fifteen days completely restores all capillaries to prevent the extra high blood pressure. The lung tissue has scars caused by previous bleeding, and these scars will normally rupture, causing more bleeding, but the Equiwinner procedure allows the scars to fully heal during the fifteen days. Normal training can then be resumed with confidence.

Since electrolytes are involved in every physiological process in the horse’s body, restoring optimal electrolyte balance with Equiwinner also improves overall performance.

These electrolyte-balancing patches are safe, effective and easy to use. The simple treatment costs less than continually trying to manage EIPH. One single treatment can be effective for up to one full year, when used as directed. Because the patches contain only natural balanced electrolytes, no chemicals or drugs are released into the horse’s body so the animal will never test positive in any competitive sport.

Equiwinner patches are distributed in the United States and Canada by Signal-Health LLC and are available from the company’s website at http://www.signal-health.com or by phoning toll-free:
