Incredibly, this is the 25th year of CRUSHING THE CUP: I remember writing a review about it in the Toronto Star for the 1996 Breeders’ Cup at Woodbine. This is the baby created by Peter Mallett and Jim Mazur, a book that has been provided to Woodbine and its fans for years along with plenty of seminars by Jim and Peter.
It is the encyclopedia of the Breeders’ Cup World Championships and its mission: “arm the horseplayer with easy to read but valuable information” so that you can make your own decisions on the 2 Cup days. Then, once pre-entries are drawn, the pair offer up the CRUSHING ZONE, putting all entrants into Contenders, Pretenders and ‘Gray Zone’ categories – keying in on live longshots.
THOROUGHBLOG is pleased to have Peter Mallett on board this year right from Santa Anita beginning Halloween, Oct. 31. Peter will provide the ‘Blog with insights and barn notes for the Cup races. Peter will provide us with all the inside scoops to help us sort out these wonderful 2 days of racing.

Sunday at Woodbine – CONQUEST VIVI came ready-made of a short layoff and remained unbeaten with a hard fought win in the Victorian Queen Stakes for Ontario sired 2yo fillies.
This will be the last start for the Court Vision – Keen Victory, by Victory Gallop filly in the Conquest Stable silks in all likelihood as the Conquest horses are selling in just over a week’s time.
This gal was the sales topper at Woodbine last year at $150,000. She won the Nandi Stakes 2nd time out in June and this was her first race since then. Patrick Husbands rode.
Vivi was one of 4 winners on Sunday for the Casse stable under the direction of David Adams, Kathryn Sullivan and a super team of dedicated staff.
Its other winners included SAILING HOME, whose debut voyage in a maiden 2yo allowance, open, earned him a 9 3/4 length score in 1:09.77 and an 83 Beyer Speed Figure. The Ontario sired, Ontario bred chestnut colt was bought back by Andy Stronach last year at the CTHS Sale for $15,000. He sold this past June in Ocala for $30,000 to Manfred and Penny Conrad who were on hand to watch the sizzling race by this youngster. He is the first 2yo debut winner for his sire Mast Track and is from the Wheelaway mare Phylee Rae. He had worked one furlong in :10 2/5 at the sale in June. The winner’s share with bonuses from the $55,900 purse totaled more than $50,000.
In the day’s opening race, Bill Jones and John Carey celebrated a win by their first time starter LOVE IN THE FOREST, an Old Forester fellow out of Jones’ top mare You Will Love Me. The colt won by 6 1/4 lengths in 58.14 for a 65 Beyer Figure. Daniel Wills trains and it was Wills’ 7th winner of the meeting from 34 starters.

MISS VISTA – LOOK AT THAT FACE!

Miss Vista, the four-year-old mare with a cult following, due to her white face, four white legs and some white on her belly, returned to the winners list at Moonee Valley on Friday night, much to the delight of her legion of fans.
Trained at Kyneton by George Osborne, Miss Vista ($1.70F) improved her record to three wins from four starts after a determined victory under Dwayne Dunn in the Inglis 55 Second Challenge Heat 4 (955m).
And in doing, she proved she’s no one-trick pony.
