MUSIC TO THEIR EARS
Midnight Aria wins for Tucci/Gonzalez

Ontario bred 3yo MIDNIGHT ARIA won a 1 1/8 mile maiden allowance on the dirt at GUlfstream Park on Saturday nd you knwo what that means! Visions of Queen’s Plate’s dance in their heads!

This guy was a shrewd claim by the Tucci Stable and trainer Nick Gonzalez from a race for $30,000 claiming. He was racing for the 3rd time that day.

This bay is by champion sprinter MIDNIGHT LUTE and from Shabandowana, who has been a good producer for her owner Yvonne Schwabe.

Shebandoawana, out of Canadian mare SAVANNAH ANNA, produced $600K earner WANNA RUNNER, who actually ran in the Plate in 2006 and was 10th behind EDENWOLD.

MIDNIGHT ARIA (5) wins at Gulfstream. Hey , the Tucci’s also have RIVER SEVEN, owned by the band River Seven, set for the Plate! Gulfstream photo finish

LOTS OF CANADIAN BLOODLINES ON THE DERBY TRAIL

From DYNAMIC SKY and UNCAPTURED , the Canadian-bred 3yo’s who have a chance to make it into the Kentucky Derby field, to GOLDENCENTS and DICE FLAVOR, there are strong Canadian pedigree lines in some good 3yos this year.

GOLDENCENTS is a serious star in the making and he is from the family of the Bold Ruckus mare BODY WORKS (Out of Kinto). Body Works raced for Phil Kives in Manitoba.
Body Works  was a machine from a running girl perspective: – 29 placings in stakes, 18 victories and $252,000 in earnings.
She has produced 6 foals to race but none won more than $25,000.
Her daughter GOLDEN WORKS, by Banker’s Gold won 2 of 8 races and $14K at Assiniboia. She raced for $5,00 claiming if you can believe it, and is a Manitoba-bred.

Bred in Kentucky by Rosecrest Farm and Karyn Pirrello, Goldencents is the fourth foal of his dam. The mare had a Canadian-bred for Kives and then was sold at Keeneland January 2007 by Windfields Farm, agent not in foal to Officer.
Karyn Pirello was the buyer.

From Frank Mitchell in the Paulick Report:

Although the mare then produced three live foals in succession, Goldencents is the only one of them to survive.

Co-breeder Charles Miller said that the first foal they bred out of the mare, a 2008 colt by Posse, “got some weird infection and died, and the other, a 2009 filly by Action This Day, was injured being broke and had to be euthanized.”

The mare foaled Goldencents in 2010, was not bred for a 2011 foal, and has a weanling colt by Will He Shine (Silver Deputy). Golden Works was not bred this year.

Another instance of a nice yearling sold inexpensively in a highly adversarial market, Goldencents brought $5,500 at the 2011 Fasig-Tipton October yearling sale from the consignment of Pope McLean’s Crestwood Farm. The colt then resold as a 2-year-old in training for $62,000 at the Ocala Breeders’ Sales Company’s June auction of juveniles. His earnings to date, from two victories in three starts, total $722,000.

Yesterday, DICE FLAVOR rolled in the El Camino Real Derby. He comes from the Richard Kennedy breeding lines of That’s a Kennedy:
