73 BEYER FIGURE FOR DEBUTING INGLORIOUS
Donver Stables’ INGLORIOUS won her debut in the Fanfreluche Stakes on Sunday. A $90,000 yearling purchase from Arosa Farms, the filly had the rail post in the small field, broke very slowly but still won over a suspect group of Ontario bred fillies.
Dreamy Moonlite dueled briefly in mid-stretch with the Josie Carroll-trained winner, but had to settle for second. Weekend Romance was third.
Inglorious covered six furlongs in 1:10-flat, GOOD FOR A 73 Beyer Figure.
Winning jockey Chantal Sutherland said Inglorious trained like a star. She wasn’t overly concerned with the slow dispatch.
“We had worked her from the gate before and she kind of did the same thing,” explained Sutherland. “She’s a good girl, very classy. I never really got to the bottom of her down the stretch.”
HOTEP WINS WITH SUPER STEER
Sam-Son Farms’ HOTEP took the off-the-turf MOBIL STAKES on Sunday.
In a well-engineered steer from start to finish, the son of A.P. Indy
was sent straight to the front and guided three paths off the rail by
jockey Patrick Husbands going into the first turn.
The maneuver forced Jim McAleney aboard Stormy Lord to make an
important decision on the backstretch: Set up for an inside or outside
attack?
McAleney opted for an inner route, just off the rail, and engaged Hotep
on the second turn. At the top of the stretch, Stormy Lord was
travelling well and appeared to have made a winning move. Within a
stride or two of being collared, Hotep found more on the outside and put
away his chestnut rival.
Howard Francis Wood 1948-2010
exdale, ON – October 25, 2010 – The CTHS wishes to extend its condolences to the family of Howard Francis Wood who passed away on Tuesday, October 19, 2010 at the age of 62.
A noted horseman and lawyer, Mr. Wood graduated from Law in 1974 from Queen’s University in Kingston, Ontario. He articled with the law firm of Humphrey, Locke, Ecclestone and Kane and was in-house counsel for Knob Hill Farms and the Stavro family until his death.
Friends and associates will be received at the Humphrey Funeral Home – A.W. Miles Chapel, 1403 Bayview Avenue in Toronto from 6:00 to 8:00 pm. on Monday, October 25, 2010. A service will be held in the chapel on Tuesday, October 26 at 1:00 p.m.

BLUE LASER OUT OF BREEDERS’ CUP

Notes re: DELIGHTFUL MARY’S WORKOUT, Churchill Downs press room
WinStar Farm’s Blue Laser and John Oxley’s Delightful Mary worked together after the renovation break with Calvin Borel on Blue Laser and Shaun Bridgmohan on Delightful Mary. Delightful Mary, racing on the outside and breaking off in front, covered five furlongs in 1:00 and finished a length in front of Blue Laser, who was clocked in 1:00.20.
Fractions for the work were :11.80, :24, :36 and :47.40 with Delightful Mary galloping out six furlongs in 1:13.80 and Blue Laser in 1:14.40.
“I thought the works were excellent,” said Casse, who was the leading trainer at Churchill Downs in the spring 1988 meet with 29 winners. “Neither of them had worked on dirt before. Blue Laser is not as good a workhorse as she is, but he is a fighter. He got passed and came back to win twice.”
While Delightful Mary, a winner of two of three starts on Polytrack, will be pre-entered in the $2 million Grey Goose Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Fillies (GI) with Bridgmohan to ride. Blue Laser may wait until the Delta Jackpot (GIII) at Delta Downs (La.) on Nov. 20.
“We (Casse and WinStar general manager Elliott Walden) are going to talk about it later today, but I think we will probably pass the Breeders’ Cup (Juvenile) and go to the Delta Jackpot,” said Casse, who shared the 2007 Jackpot victory with dead-heat winner Turf War.
“One of the factors is timing,” said Walden, who celebrated victories this spring by Super Saver in the Kentucky Derby Presented by Yum! Brands (GI) and Drosselmeyer in the Belmont Stakes (GI). “He just ran three weeks ago and ran really hard and our program is geared to the 3-year-old season.”
WinStar won the Delta Jackpot last year with Rule, who is in training at Churchill Downs.

“I’m on cloud nine after watching her work this morning,” said Casse, who trains Delightful Mare for owner John Oxley. “I think of all the times I’ve seen her breeze, today was her most impressive one and I’m not sure if she doesn’t like the dirt even more than the Polytrack. She’s not a great work horse and I told Shaun to carry a stick and be prepared to tap her on the shoulder but when he came back he had a smile from ear to ear and said he was just hanging on, that he never needed the stick. I told Mr. Oxley if this filly can move up a couple of lengths on dirt it could be really exciting on Breeders’ Cup Day.”
