HOLLYWOOD HIT BANNED
BREAKING EWS…Track record holder HOLLYWOOD HIT has been banned from racing in Ontario for 90 days according to a ruling issued by the ONTARIO RACING COMMISSION yesterday. The rapid 3yo, owned by James Redekop and trained by Terry Jordan, set a 6 furlong record at Woodbine on Sept. 30 – 1:07.38, but has been tested positive for the tranquilizer, Class 3 drug Acepromazine.

rmed the the horse is not eligible to race for 90 days in Ontario – a ruling that would likely be reciprocated throughout North America.
That puts the purse from the stake on Sept. 30 out of reach now for Hollywood Hit connections plus wipes out starts in the upcoming Kennedy Road or Breeders’ Cup.

Acepromazine is widely used as a sedative in horses. It serves as a tranquilizer to better facilitate handling of these large mammals before transportation or surgical procedures. Acepromazine has been classified by the Association of Racing Commissioners International, Inc. as a Class 3 drug in horses. Abuse of the drugs in the Class 3 category can result in 2-6 months of suspension, up to $1500 fine, and loss of purse. Acepromazine has a slow elimination rate and stays in the body for a long time. This can be problematic if the drug is administered before a race event since its calming effect can lead to a better performance by the horse.

BIOFUEL, owned and bred by Kentuckian BRERETON JONES, put up an 83 Beyer Figure to win the Grade 3 Mazarine Stakes for 2yo fillies yesterday and is Breeders’ Cup bound.
It was the 2nd graded stakes win in as many days for trainer Reade Baker and jockey Eurico Rosa Da Silva.
In the Kentucky-bred’s fourth career start and first try around two
turns, Biofuel traveled 1 1/16 miles in 1:44.47, under Eurico Rosa da
Silva.
The daughter of Stormin Fever was patiently handled by da Silva, who
watched Resentless take the eight-horse field through quite quick opening splits of
:24.24 and :48.47, before the bay seized the lead with authority in
early stretch.
Aboard the filly for the third time, da Silva was impressed with his
mount’s tenacity.
“We broke and she was relaxed,” said da Silva. “I was telling
her, ‘Hey my darling, just relax, we’re going to do a big job in the
end.’ And you know what, she responded pretty well and she did
great.”
It was a decidedly different outcome from her previous start, a
seventh-place finish in the one-mile, Grade 3 Natalma, contested on the
E.P. Taylor Turf Course on September 19.
“She’s a nice, sound, healthy filly,” offered Baker. “The grass
race was a toss. The sprint was a toss.”
Bred and owned by Brereton Jones, Biofuel broke her maiden in her
career bow on July 25, before finishing fourth to Franny Freud in the
Ontario Debutante on August 15.
“I thought we were in a good spot all along,” said Baker.
“(Jockey) Jim McAleney worked her (Biofuel) for me in June and said
she’d win the Mazarine. Unfortunately (for him), he had to ride
Ernfold for me the last time (in the Natalma) so he didn’t get to ride
her today.”
MORE WOODBINE YESTERDAY
Freshman sire WANDO has his 2nd winner when SILENT WISPER (yes, that’s how it is spelled) stalked and then led the way and won a 2 turn maiden allowance in race 1 for Gus Schickedanz and trainer Mike Keogh.
Other winners included the red-hot Ontario sired gal CLEAR LAKE, who won a 9 furlong allowance, for R0ob Smithen and trainer Paul Attard. She is by Megas Vukefalos.
Adena Springs was prominent yesterday – it won the finale with GINGER BELL in a maiden claiming race and bred winners like the 2yo FREEPORT BAY by new Ontario sire OLMODAVOR.
THOUGHTS ON THE BIG EVENTS YESTERDAY

While BIOFUEL will head to the Breeders’ Cup (trainer Baker’s FATAL BULLET leaves tomorrow from Kentucky for Santa Anita), it is uncertain how many big winners yesterday will head to the Cup.
In Ne York, the big championship races run on the dirt – HOMEBOYKRIS in the Champagne and DEVIL MAY CARE in the Frizette would both be switching surfaces to synthetic for the cup.
The former, an $11,000 2yo purchase by Roman Ruker, may not go to the Cup.
The SHADWELL MILE was run on a treacherous turf course – so deep that a one-mile trip in 1:38 was considered good. COURT VISION won a head bob over KARELIAN while favourites Mr. Sidneyand Justenuffhumous wallowed in the bog.
Canadian-bred STERWINS was 5th.
IN CALIFORNIA, it appears as if the ride for MINE THAT BIRD is done.
The Canadian champion who won the Kentucky Derby in the mud and then did okay in races after that (without wining), was a non-factor in the GOODWOOD against older horses.
The winner was the 3yo GITANO HERNANDO, making his NOrth American debut under comeback rider of the year KIERAN FALLON. The Hernado colt was a recent purchase by the always powerful TEAM VALOR.

GHOST FLEET, considered by some as the top local 2yo, may be favoured and how can you eliminate a runner from the READE BAKER barn? BEAR TOUGH GUUY, who comes up on the low side in sheet numbers, is a contender nevertheless, in the 2 turn Polytrack race.
