BRISNET’S KELLIE RILEY WRITES ABOUT THE TAYLOR…
Northern light? The E.P. Taylor S. (Can-G1) at Woodbine usually comes up strong, and this Saturday’s renewal is no different. At this writing, it’s unclear which contenders might use it as a stepping stone to Churchill, or which are targeting it as their ultimate goal. The DRF lists an entire squadron of European shippers. Most notable are the Aga Khan’s SHALANAYA (Ire) (Lomitas [GB]), who defeated Midday in last year’s Prix de l’Opera (Fr-G1) and was most recently a better-than-appears seventh in the Prix Jean Romanet (Fr-G1); Oaks d’Italia (Ity-G2) heroine CONTREDANSE (Ire) (Danehill Dancer), fifth to Midday in the Nassau S. (Eng-G1) and a near-miss second last time out in the Prix de la Nonette (Fr-G3) to Lily of the Valley (Galileo [Ire]), who came back to upset Stacelita (Monsun) in this year’s Opera on October 3; PACHATTACK (Pulpit), who was literally stranded at the start of the Beverly D. but somehow recovered to finish sixth; and defending champion LAHALEEB (Ire) (Redback), who has even less to recommend her this time than when she sprang a 44-1 shock here a year ago
