CANADIAN MILLIONS NIGHT!

WOODBINE – WEDNESDAY Sales Graduates compete in 6 stakes races

$7,500. That is all KIT KAT KATIE cost at auction last fall at the Canadian Premier Yearling Sales. Now the 2-year-old filly, who arrived from New York for the Muskoka Stakes Wednesday night could pick up a share of the $175,000 monster purse offered for 2-year-old fillies.

The daughter of Sky Mesa – El Tara by Schossberg (who has a sibling in the sale on Thursday (sale starts at Noon)) is a maiden but has run well in the two races in New York on turf and dirt that were trouble-free (she was eliminated in her second start.).

She was bred and sold by Hill ‘n’ Dale Farms.

There are many neat stories like this gal’s in the six stakes races Wed. night and hopefully the big winners and those whose horses grab shares of the nice purses will parlay some of that back to the sale on Thursday.

This is the big day for Ontario breeders, those who have elected to keep their horses here for the CTHS Ontario’s annual sale.

The CTHS WEBSITE, under Quick Links, has four features on some bargain buys! http://www.cthsont.com/

Here is a preview of the evening’s races:

RACE 2 – The first of six stakes races this evening is the 1 1/2 mile Halton Stakes on the grass.

Last year’s winner is here, ENGLISH ILLUSION and he scored an upset last year defeating champion Johnny BEAR. English Illusion has not raced since December. He is owned by  4U THOROUGHBRED RACING STABLE INC. and trained by Sylvain Pion. He was claimed by this group last August for $45,000. He was bought back from the 2014 yearling sale for $18,000.

COOLER MIKE is cross entered in this race and the Elgin as in KING AND HIS COURT. The latter makes his first start for the new syndicate BEAT THE FEET racing and trainer Sylvain Pion.

RACE 3 – The amazing PINK LLOYD, a $30,000 purchase from breeder John Carey with more than $1.1 million in earnings goes for his third Kenora.

RACE 4-  The ALGOMA STAKES for fillies and mares at 1 1/16 miles features $35,000 purchase RED CABERNET owned by the Piano Bar Racing Stable and bred and sold by Paul Buttigieg and $7,000 purchase ALICE’S WAR, plucked out of the sale by Warren LeBlanc from Huntington Stud Farm, who also bought millionaire MELMICH.

And HELL N WILD, sold by Bonnie Rowntree’s Willow Ridge Farm for herself and Jacqueline Armstrong, is also a contender and she was bought for $8,000 by Mike Doyle and now races for True North Stable.

RACE 5 -GOLDMINE CAT, racing for the partnership of Mark and Tina Casse and Sue Leslie was bought for $30,000 by Leslie last fall. This 2-year-old colt was sold and bred by CARA BLOODSTOCK of Bernard and Karen McCormack. Most of the other colts in this Simcoe stakes, worth $175,000 cost less than $20,000 including ROCKCREST, sold by Northern Dawn Stables ($17,000 colt by Old Forester) and and LAKESIDE PARK ($15,000).

Race 6 – In addition to the aforementioned KIT KATIE KATIE, the Mukoka favourite SHE’S A DREAM cost $60,000 and was bred and sold by Ericka Rusnak through Hill ‘n’ Dale Farms. BLESSED TRULY, by Souper Speedy.

TARA DAWN has made about $50,000 already and is still a maiden and she was bred by Tara Horse Farm Inc., sold by Richard Hogan, agent and brought just a $5,000 bid. She is by Bear’s Kid.

Race 7 – The ELGIN STAKES at 1 1/16 miles is headed by KINGSPORT ia wonderful 7-year-old with $740,000 in career earnings and he easily won this Elgin Stakes last year. He was a $10,000 buy-back from the yearling sale six years ago.
