HI HO SILVER!!
If you catch the new movie LONE RANGER when it opens this weekend, you will see Ontario boys CLOUD TEN and WHITE PHAROAH!
Blazing Colours Farm, a Wellandport, Ontario-based equestrian center and breeding facility, announced today that two white thoroughbred horses bred at Blazing Colours Farm and sold to Walt Disney Productions in 2011 will be starring in Disney’s
new movie, “The Lone Ranger”. The movie, starring Johnny Depp and Armie Hammer, debuts in theaters on July 3, 2013.
April Wayenberg, founder and owner of Blazing Colours Farm, said that she was approached by one of the head “wranglers” for the movie in May of 2011. The wrangler, who was responsible for selecting and training the horses appearing in the film, did visit the Farm in person soon thereafter and made the decision to purchase the two white thoroughbreds born and raised at Blazing Colours
Farm for use in “The Lone Ranger.”
The horses purchased were Cloud Ten (a 6 year old stallion) and White Pharaoh (a 4 year old gelding).
” They were the bigger, more athletic horses that they used for Silver so they were used in the stunts. For galloping, jumping, shooting off of, rearing etc… “, said Wayenberg.
A total of 4 white horses were used during production of The Lone Ranger, including the two Canadian-bred horses from Ontario. Both horses were born and raised at Blazing Colours Farm and sired by the stallion Sato, who is also owned by Blazing Colours. Sato is famous in his own right, as he was immortalized as a Breyer horse model in 2010 due to the fact that he is a
rare Palomino Pinto Thoroughbred and the first one ever born in the world. Both Sato and Cloud Ten were also photographed and featured in “Horses in Living Color”, a book published in 2010 by renowned equine photographer Barbara Livingston
Cloud Ten made headlines in several newspapers when he was born in 2005 because he was the FIRST white Thoroughbred to ever be foaled on Canadian soil. At that time there were only about 20 white Thoroughbreds every registered by The Jockey Club out of a total of nearly 2.5 million Thoroughbreds on record, which made Cloud Ten quite a rarity.
The white horses are from the sire SATO, who is a grandson of NATIVE ROYALTY and from a mare by Winged T, who is by TOM FOOL.

RIVER IS ROLLING
Canada’s champion turf male of 2012, RIDING THE RIVER, may have had to leave racing early last season because of unsoundness, but the son of Wiseman’s Ferry is back with a vengeance.
Ridden by his new pal, TODD KABEL, RIDING THE RIVER edged VALENTINO BEAUTYin the Grade 2 King Edward Stakes on Sunday for his 9th win in 22 races. His earnings are now at $840,000 – not bad for a $3,500 yearling purchase (to read about why Dave Cotey bought this guy, check out the Sovereign awards issue of CANADIAN THOROUGHBRED magazine for the cute story).
“He hasn’t had any respect in the past,” said Cotey, of the star gelding who went to post as the even-money favourite. “When I saw 6-5, I thought, ‘Oh no,’ but the old guy took care of him there and bailed us out. I was almost under the table with my eyes shut the last few yards.
SATURDAY AT WOODBINE: BREAKNECK SPEED
CONQUEST WHIPLASH won her career debut in the Victoria Stakes for 2yo’s on Saturday as most predicted. This fast gal by Hear No Evil was a $370,000 2yo purchase after working in 20 2/5 for 2 furlongs at the April sale. She had been only a $15,000 yearling buy.
Owners Conquest Stable are Americans who have stepped up to buy some big ticket items and it’s cool to see the big stables race at Woodbine.
The filly went fast but the final time of :58 did not yield a big Beyer – it was just a 59.
More Staurday
WOODY G is a 4yo this year and the Gus Schickedanz homebred ran the highest Beyer Figure of his career on Saturday when he gamely won a 1 3/8 mile grass race for $37m500 claiming, He posted an 86 with his front running score – his 3rd of his career. He is a Langfuhr gelding trained by Mike Keogh.
Eaton Hall Farms has been a player in racing for decades and it celebrated a win for 2013 with the 2yo ALOVELYBUNCH won her debut at the maiden allowance level. She is an Adena Springs bred daughter of young sire SHOWING UP out of Coconut Cream, by Touch Gold.
She cost $17,000 as a yearling at Fasig Tipton October and is trained by Mike Doyle.
TURKISH, a 4yo by Istan, won his maiden in race 3 by 6 lengths for Brereton Jones, who bred the gelding. This long, smooth striding fellow was making his 10th start and he won the 1 1/4 mile turf race under Emma-Jayne Wilson with a 78 Beyer.
MAKING AMENDS was racing in his first 2 turn Polytrack race that was not the Plate or Plate Trial on Saturday – and he won! With an 81 Beyer. The Ontario bred by Repent won a stakes race first time out as a 2yo and had not win since then. He had been overmatched and going too short in his races since then but made amends for Richard Lederman and Quintessential Racing.
Zelko Krcmar won his first race of the year when John Irvine and Gail Luman’s SILO RIDGE won for $9,500 claiming, He is by legal Jousting (Ire) and was bred by Cedarcrest Farms.
EAGLE HALL won the 6th race, which was taken off the grass after the 4th race had been run. Heavy rain forced the move. That was no matter to to EAGLE, who landed her 6th career win in the $62,500 race for owner and breed Eugene Melnyk.
**Thoroughblog, like most horseplayers, were not aware that the new CPMA rule for Pick 4 wagers says that if a race’s surface is changed in mid Pick 4 bet, the player will receive an ‘all’ on the ticketfor the race in question (I had already ripped mine up , LOL).
Race 7 when to favoured IT’S SURREAL, who won for $25,000 to take his maiden for Mary Biamonte and C. DeMizio. Race 9 went to BIG TIME, making his 2nd start of the year for Ken Lee, Gaye and Don Mitchell and trainer Mary Drexler. He won for $19,000 claiming. The last race was won by HIGH TEE, trained by John Mattine, who had the grey 5yo in for $15,00 claiming.
